1975 Triumph TR6 CF 28866U
While Speedwell is in the business of restoring and maintaining classic British cars, we don't often buy or sell them. On occasion however, we will have a client ask us to present their car for sale on Ebay, often due to life changing circumstances. This wonderful TR6 is one such example. The hopes of the current owner are that it will go to a good home and continue to be well cared for, driven and loved.
This vehicle is absolutely gorgeous, exceedingly original and well preserved, numbers matching and entirely solid and sound. Finished in one of the most desirable factory original colors - Signal Red with a matching black top & tonneau covers. A true survivor, it was never exposed to the elements or left to fall into disrepair, as evidenced by the multitude of files and records kept on the car. These records start in 1986 and remain very consistent for the 33 years that bring us to present day. It is mechanically excellent and ready for touring and other enthusiast events. A completely honest preserved classic that's sure to bring its new owner years of reliable enjoyment and investment appreciation.
The accident free body is laser straight showing all original factory panel gaps. The glass and chrome are all in excellent original condition, as are the original wheels and center caps. The black soft top has been replaced and is still in excellent condition with clear zip-out rear window. The car's undercarriage is entirely original and sound, free of any corrosion and completely straight and correct, this car has never been dismantled and the underside does not belie the exposure to moisture that one will find in most TR6s. The car's interior is in similarly clean condition, the original seats have been professionally restored with new vinyl covers & foam backing, carpets and interior panels have all been replaced and show zero wear. The wood veneer dash is completely crack free and 100% original. It has not been refinished and shows as new. All other dash top cap & vinyl fascia pieces are pristine.
All gauges & switches and electrical components are fully functional. The original wiring is neat and unmolested. The car has a Sony upgraded stereo with upgraded rear deck mounted Pioneer speakers and 6X9" box speakers as well. The musical sound is amazing.
Completely numbers matching and original, the 2.5L inline 6 cylinder starts effortlessly, idles consistently and pulls strong and smoothly through each of the gears. The oil pressure is strong both at idle and while motoring down the road. The engine compartment is pristine, the original paint has been detailed and waxed and shows as nice as the exterior.
While in the care of Speedwell for the past couple of years we have addressed EVERY issue we could possibly find and the owner has maintained the car with an open checkbook. The goal, of course, being to continue the proper care that has been lavished on this car its entire life and to use the car for driving events and shows. Following is a list of recent maintenance as performed by us:
1) Properly replaced clutch assembly, resurfaced flywheel, etc. While gearbox out, renewed rear crankshaft seal, front gearbox seal and rear gearbox seal. Drilled additional hole through gearbox cross shaft and clutch actuating lever to accommodate a roll pin to bolster the original shear pin set up. Renewed flywheel pilot bushing. We also used all new bolts, washers and dowels.
2) New speedometer cable.
3) Replaced all flexible brake hoses, new brake master cylinder and booster (servo). System flushed and bled using the proper Castrol LMA brake fluid.
4) Replaced front and rear shocks (Koni tube shocks up front and Apple Hydraulics rebuilt units for the rear) and both rear shock links.
5) Changed oil and filter (spin on) using 20W50 Valvoline VR1, changed oil in gearbox as well. Lubricate all grease fittings.
6) Replaced headlamp switch and fuse box.
7) Replaced distributor cap and spark plug wires.
8) Replaced heater control valve and lubricated cable.
9) Remove differential, weld cracked RF differential mount, weld in gussets for both front differential mounts, pant welded areas and re-install differential.
10) Rebuild the carburetors and installed ethanol resistant floats.
11) Replace Pertronix electronic ignition with original points set-up.
12) Replaced glovebox.
13) Replaced bushings for throttle cross shaft.
14) Install emergency bonnet release as back up to the factory cable.
15) Check engine compression- All within 10% of 155 PSI
The vehicle comes with a clear title, current registration, owner's manual and all receipts provided by previous owners.
Owner history and historical receipt highlights:
The earliest receipt (dated July of 1986) indicates ownership by a gentleman in British Columbia, Canada. Apparently he moved to Ontario in July of 1989.
In September of 1990 ownership changes to another gentleman in Ontario. The last receipt from this gentleman is dated August of 1998 (Owned approximately 8 years).
The next receipt is made out to the next owner, another Ontario resident, and dated December of 1999, just before Y2K! Remember that, when the world ended? Oh, that's right, it didn't J
In Winter 1999/2000 car's paint was stripped and car was treated to an extensive, proper respray.
In October of 2000 the windshield was replaced and is still beautiful to this day.
In April of 1995 engine was professionally rebuilt utilizing standard rod and main bearings. (ODO was at (1)11890 in November of that year according to receipts).
In January 1997 gearbox was professionally rebuilt.
In June of 2007 the carpets were replaced
In July 2010 the original rocker cover was chromed and it still looks great.
In November of 2011 the cylinder head was reconditioned.
Receipts for this owner cease in May of 2015 (Indicating a minimum ownership of 15 years).
The car was purchased by the current owner from Mark Hord in Ontario, Canada in July of 2015.
The receipts, in total, provide and excellent insight to the excellent level of care this car has always received.
Driving experience- The engine starts easily with a tug on the manual choke and application of the starter. Once started, the choke is pushed in and the engine settles into a nice cadenced idle. Oil pressure cold is 60 PSI at idle. Once the engine gets hot, it still holds an impressive oil pressure of 50 PSI. As you will see in the video, the car pulls away smartly and accelerates easily to speed. There is no pull left or right as the car tracks smoothly and straight. Steering response is excellent on the Michelin Harmony radials and braking is sure. To watch this beautiful car in action, click on the video below.

There are virtually no chips in the paint, the interior is amazing, the convertible top is excellent with no yellowing or rips in the material, the chrome is excellent, and the car is a tight running TR6. This is not a body off restored car so the entire underside is coated with Crown rust proofing which has preserved all the metal surfaces since 1975 (As indicated in the receipts). That, coupled with the car being rarely driven in winter months, makes this car one of the most solid examples you will find. Ebay only allows us 24 pictures. * The first video is from Eurofest 2015, not last year.
* The videos may not load on some smart phones unless you cut and paste them into your browser. They will, however, load easily on any PC.
*Food for thought- One could easily spend $30,000+ and several years of one's life restoring a TR6 or purchase this car for less and start enjoying it right now. The older I get the more i appreciate opton 2 ;-)
