Car description |
---|
This is a no reserve auction. Time to let go of my car collection. This is a good original unmolested Triumph Stag for restoration as shown. Comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate and a clear title. It is an original matching numbers car built 2 August, 1971. Shipped to the USA 13 August, 1971. Factory equipped with 4 speed manual transmission, overdrive, wire wheels, air conditioning and Sapphire blue hardtop. Also has the softtop. Original Sapphire blue color with black ambla interior. It has been a dry Georgia car all it's life and was last registered on the road in 2000. Odometer reading shows 46362. Everything, including the engine and transmission is factory original, where most of the Stags, if not all by now, have been modified one way or another. THIS IS A RESTORATION PROJECT.
VALUE:
As of this writing Hagertys classic car values list the value for the 1971 Triumph Stag at: Fair: $6200. Good (average): $12,000. Excellent: $19,200. Concours: $35,600. With the probability that prices will continue to increase over time.
ENGINE:
The engine is all original and starts and runs with the ignition key. We started and ran the engine with starting fluid and an auxiliary fuel tank long enough to see that it ran with no smoke or noises and had oil pressure.
TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH/DIFFERENTIAL:
Car was in good running order when last on the road in 2000 and these items should still be OK. Plan on at least replacing the hydraulics.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT:
Very good, straight, original paint, solid. No accident or other damage seen anywhere.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT:
Good, original paint. Very solid with the exception of a few easily repairable rust holes at the very bottom.
BODY PANELS, SHEET METAL:
Actually quite solid with the exception of some easily fixable small rust perforations in isolated areas developed from sitting outside - nothing rusting from underneath or from the inside out as usually is the case from rot boxes driven in salt.
EXTERIOR BODY PARTS:
Chrome and stainless trim is all original and still im decent condition. Factory hardtop and softtop are there - No idea what condition the softtop material is in - by now probably no good, if there is any material left at all. Have not seen it for 20 years. The passenger outside door opening handle is missing. It does open from the inside though.
INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY:
The interior is still original needing redoing. Carpeting, although almost non existant now is still there - at least the interior hasn't been mucked up by someone.
DASH AREA:
Dashboard is the original wood and has heavy delaminating. Top pad is cracked. Original gauges are all there and look fine. No radio. 46,362 miles showing on the odometer.
ELECTRICAL:
When it was hooked up to 12 volts to start it some of the electrical things did work such as the horns and some of the lights. The electrical system looks to be in very good shape - All of the wires under the dash, engine compartment, etc look original and in very good condition - nothing ripped out, jumpered, repaired or rodent eaten that we could see. There is no battery.
GLASS:
All glass is factory original and in excellent undamaged condition. Windshield still has an original Georgia State Patrol safety sticker on it.
CHASSIS:
The underside is very good, straight, complete and undamaged from front to back. Rockers are excellent and very solid. Only rust that is underneath is some easily fixed rust through isolated areas on the floors where water was sitting, as shown in the photos. No rust in the doors.
WHEELS/TIRES:
All original 72 spoke chrome wire wheels (5). Tires are good enough just to hold air.
SUSPENSION/BRAKES/STEERING:
All complete, original and untouched. Nothing was done to get the brakes up to working order so there are no brakes. The steering does work but it is extremely hard with engine not running. It does have power steering.
EXHAUST:
All manifolds are there and intact but the exhaust system will need replacing.
FACTORY ID PLATES:
The original ID plates are all excellent and unmodified. The vehicle serial number is LE2841LO. The engine number is LE1118E. These are the correct matching original numbers as noted on the British Heritage certificate.
PAPERWORK:
The car does have a clear proper title. Includes the British Motor Industries Heritage Certificate.
REVIEW:
A good original project that can be restored.
INSPECTION OF CAR:
It is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accommodate anyone to show them the car. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have sold roughly 30 autos/motorcycles through ebay over the past 20 years and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers with 100 percent positive feedback on every transaction.
SHIPPING:
Having shipped cars to all parts of the world over the years I can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange transport. The cheapest and most efficient method usually is to call a transport broker in your area and have them put out bids for the job. The car is in a secure place at my home and it can be collected there. I can assist with loading.
PAYMENT & BIDDING:
Contact me if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid WILL be cancelled. A $500 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due IMMEDIATELY after the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days via a bank cashiers check or wire transfer. Full payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. IN ADVANCE, BEFORE YOU COLLECT THE CAR - This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. When the auction is over payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. The car is at my home and can be left here for up to 30 days at no charge before collection.
