Car description

The first restoration of my TR took place in Canada and was completed in the early 1990's. It was an extensive,long-term program and was very complete and extensively detailed and documented by receipts. All metal shell components were zinc dipped for corrosion protection and stainless steel fasteners were used throughout the re-assembly process. All metals parts; front shell, fenders, hood, trunk and windshield were installed and the car painted, all were rust free and without damage. Suspension parts were replaced along with new heavy duty front coil springs.
The engine was re-assembled utilizing 87mm sleeves with Vonolia 11:1 high performance pistons, Deve rings, .005 in over stainless valves, Isky valve springs, lightened lifters, alloy valve retainers, 4130 aluminum pushrods, 555 Isky camshaft and custom headwork. Also installed were alloy and aluminum pulleys and a lightened aluminum flywheel. All engine work was performed by Paeco High Performance in Birmingham, Ala.
Further upgrades included an alternator conversion, Mallory Unilite Electronic Distributor, Hayden Electric Fan, electric fuel pump. New leather upholstery, convertible soft-top, tonneau cover and a top frame cover, chrome spoke wheels with splined hubs, Lucas fog lights and Bosch air horns. The original transmission was replaced with an all synchro unit with Overdrive.
At this stage, in October 1991, Terry Dale's Old Car Factory in Nepean, Ontario, performed an inspection of the car and verified the receipts, supplied by the owner. They felt the amount of $29,042 was authentic and placed a value figure of $23,000.
The TR was sold after the restoration was complete when the owner was transferred to Europe. It passed through 2 different owners before I acquired in in 2012. They basically stored the car as it had only accumulated 6700 miles upon my purchase.
I owned a TR-2 during my college days and had been looking for one to restore for a number of years. When I found this car on Ebay, I phoned the seller and arranged to meet him for an inspection. I was very impressed with the appearance of the car, but as it had been sitting for almost a year, not with the way it ran. The carbs definitely needed work and the brakes were marginal. We agreed on the price and I started making arrangements to have it shipped to Florida.
On it's way to Florida the convertible top blew off. The shipper didn't notice it until he reached my home. His insurance company provided me with a brand new Robbins convertible top! The first items I addressed were a changing of all the fluids, re-building the carbs, rebuilding both the brake and clutch master cylinders along with the brakes, both front and back. I then attacked the exhaust system. I ordered a ceramic coated set of headers along with a new Monza exhaust system. I then searched and found a used hardtop, which needed a lot of work. I bought all new weather stripping along with a new rear window. I had a head liner installed and it was ready to go to the paint shop, at a later date.
At this time, the car was running fine so, I addressed the cosmetics of the interior. All the interior was removed down to the floor. The seats were in excellent condition so I set them aside. I relocated the radio, returning the glove box door to its proper location. The carpet was removed and the entire floor and trunk treated with POR 15. New carpet was installed, new radio speakers and lastly, the seats. New toggle switches were added to operate the radiator fan, driving lights and the windshield washers. The car was now ready for the Body/Paint shop.
At the body shop all fenders, trunk lid, hood, doors, spare tire cover, windshield and hardtop were removed and prepped, along with the body shell, for paint. Six months later, I arrived with my trailer to take the car home. As we were loading the car, the shop manager said the first thing you do when you get the car home is order new tires. Although the Michelin ZX tires looked brand new, he showed me the tires numbers showing them to be 22 years old! When I got home I ordered a set of Firestone high speed tires from Coker Tire, and had them installed. I have also recently installed a chrome luggage rack. The car is also equipped with side wind deflectors along with windshield visors. The side windows are in very good condition with several new windows installed.
My TR has been shown in several car shows winning trophies in the All British Classic Car Show held each year in Winter Park, Fla. It has also been featured twice in the Orlando Sentinel under the "Cool Cars" automotive section.I have all the receipts for both restorations.
