Car description

The Spitfire is rightfully named after the famed Battle of Britain fighter plane! The American market Spitfire 1500 is easily identified by the plastic over-riders and wing mounted reflectors on the front and back wings. The US specification models up to 1978 still had chrome bumpers. Further improvements to the suspension followed with the 1500 included longer swing axles and a lowered spring mounting point for more negative camber and a wider rear track. The wider, ower stance gave an impressive skid pad result of 0.87g average. This put the Spitfire head and shoulders over its competition in handling. The American market model was fitted with a single Zenith-Stromberg carburetor and a compression ratio of 7.5:1 to allow it to run on lower octane unleaded fuel. This Spitfire 1500 with what is believed to be 62,971 actual miles was recovered from a vacant lot in Gypsum Colorado where it had been abandon for an untold amount of time. We have a photographic timeline of the restoration and over $16,000 documented receipts to resurrect this little blue Triumph. The car was disassembled, ith all mechanical components removed, enewed or replaced. The 1500's original matching numbers engine was removed, ompletely disassembled, he cylinder head was sent out to have hard valve seals installed, he remainder of the rebuild was performed and the motor was reassembled. Other major work completed consists of all new rubber in engine compartment, new rings, earings, alves, alve seals, luminum valve cover, ush rod bearings, new starter, lternator rebuild, lectric fan & an adjustable thermostat switch. Additional improvements consist of a Weber DGV carburetor and manifold, oated exhaust headers, nd all flowing freely through a Monza exhaust system. Additionally the entire braking system was renewed, ncluding the master cylinder, lave cylinders, hoes, ads, nd stainless steel flex lines. To ensure it performed as intended all new suspension parts including sway bars, ie rods and ball socket joints were replaced. The interior was completely removed, fter sitting outside for years it was in poor condition. An all new dash, nstruments, arpet and all new upholstery were properly fitted. A new top and tonneau cover complete the period correct refurbishment. The minor rust was removed from the interior surfaces, asked and refinished, ach body components was removed and prepared separately, ollowed by three coats of primer and finished in the original Pageant Blue (PPG #224) and applied in four coats.Hagerty's current market valuation for a Condition #1 car is $17,900 and a Condition #2 car at $12,900. This particular model is a later restoration and not a Pebble Beach Concourse winner, ut a very nice example of a well sorted Triumph and would win any local or regional show. We rate this car at a 2++ car and is now offered at $14,470.Cannot be registered by a Colorado resident who lives in a area that requires an emissions test.
