SIX CYL 2F, HF55 FIVE SPEED, PURCHASED NEW BY PREVIOUS OWNER, FJ60 SPLIT TCASE, FACTORY POWER STEERING, NEW WEBER CARB WITH ELECTRIC CHOKE, OEM TOYOTA REBUILT RE-CURVED DISTRIBUTOR AND IGNITER, RECENT COOLING/HEATING SYSTEM BACK FLUSHED NEW HOSES AND CLAMPS. HUBS ENGAGE PROPERLY, SHIFTS IN AND OUT OF 4WD NO PROBLEM. PO STATED THAT BRAKES WERE DONE BY THE SHOP PO PURCHASED FROM, APX. 8K MILES AGO. STOCK SUSPENSION AND RIDE HEIGHT. NEVER BEEN CUT OR MUTILATED.
I PURCHASED MARCH 2017 4800 MI ON CLOCK.
MARCH 15, PURCHASED NEW WEBER CARB.
MARCH 30, 4820 MI. OIL AND FILTER CASTROL 10/40, NEW SPARK PLUGS. ADJUST VALVES, TIMING.
MARCH 31, 4832 MI. REPLACE COOLANT AND THERMOSTAT, CHANGE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE FLUID, BOTH DIFFS, LUBE CHASSIS, INSTALL FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE.
JULY 2017, PURCHASED OE DISTRIBUTOR AND IGNITER. CANT FIND RECEIPT BUT HAVE RECEIPT FOR RE-BUILD AND RE-CURVE.MARCH 11, 2018, 7400 MI. OIL AND FILTER CASTROL 10/40 LUBE CHASSIS.
OCTOBER 13, 2019 9985 MI. OIL AND FILTER CASTROL 10/40 LUBE CHASSIS.
OCTOBER 5, 2020 10580 MI. REPLACE TRANSFER CASE INPUT SHAFT SEAL.
WHEN THE PO RECEIVED THE TRUCK FROM NEW MEXICO IT HAD MULTIPLE OIL LEAKS THEY WERE ALL FIXED, INCLUDING REBUILDING OF THE FRONT AXLE. RECEIPTS INCLUDED. NO MAJOR LEAKS. SKID PLATE, REMOVED FOR VIDEO, INCLUDED.
ENGINE:
PO WAS TOLD ENGINE REBUILT WHEN HE BOUGHT. THERE IS NO PAPERWORK FOR THAT. I WILL SAY THAT WHEN I ADJUSTED THE VALVES, THE VALVE TRAIN WAS IMMACULATE.
ONE THING THAT I DO KNOW, THE TRUCK RUNS VERY GOOD. GOOD POWER, STARTS EASY, NO SMOKE, DOES NOT BURN OIL, USES VERY LITTLE, RUNS COOL.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS NOT DETAILED AND IS ORIGINAL.
HAS BEEN DE-SMOGGED. SMOG PUMP STILL ATTACHED.
INTERIOR:
NEW DASH PADS, ALL DOOR SEALS REPLACED INCLUDING CARGO DOORS, DOOR WINDOW CHANNELS REPLACED AS WELL AS FELT WINDOW SEALS. REAR VENT WINDOW SEALS, CARGO DOOR GLASS SEALS REPLACED. ALL OTHER GLASS SEALS GOOD. NEW WINDOW REGULATOR DRIVER SIDE, NEW SEAT COVERS, REAR SEATS RE-DONE, NEW DOOR PANELS, CARPET KIT, MATS. TOOL KIT, JACK RODS, AND JACK PRESENT. WORKING REAR HEATER REMOVED, DISASSEMBLED, CLEANED, AND RE-PAINTED. WINDSHIELD REPLACED. THE HEADLINER WAS REPLACED BY THE SHOP PO BOUGHT IT FROM. LOOKS GOOD, NOT SAGING OR FALLING DOWN. INTERIOR PAINT IS ORIGINAL. ALPINE AM/FM/CD WITH BLUETOOTH.
ELECTRICAL:
THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT IS NOT WORKING. EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS AS IT SHOULD, EVEN THE DASH LIGHT.
EXTERIOR:
PAINTED 2012 BY THE SHOP THE PO PURCHASED FROM IN NEW MEXICO. LOOKS GOOD, EVEN UP CLOSE. AT LEAST AS GOOD AS ORIGINAL FACTORY PAINT JOB. THERE WAS A SCRAPE ON THE TUB (PASS. SIDE), A DENT (DRIVER SIDE) AND A SMALL DENT ON THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER. THOSE ISSUES WERE FIXED AND THE TUB AND RIGHT FRONT FENDER WERE RE-PAINTED. THE BODY SHOP DID AN VERY GOOD JOB OF PAINT MATCHING. THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS BODY WORK. NOT A LOT OF BONDO IN THE TUB MOSTLY SKIMMED, CAN STILL SEE MOST OF THE FACTORY SPOT WELDS ON TOP SIDES AND TUB. THE HARDTOP LOOKS GOOD, BUT WAS NOT PAINTED WHEN THE BODY WAS DONE.
GLASS:
ORIGINAL EXCEPT FOR WINDSHIELD. SCRATCHES ON THE DRIVER SIDE QUARTER, VENT, CURVED CORNER GLASS, AND A SCRAPE ON THE DRIVER SIDE CARGO DOOR GLASS. OTHER GLASS GOOD AND CLEAR WITH MINOR SCRATCHES.
RUST:
THERE WAS A POP RIVET SHEET METAL REPAIR TO THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR PAN. THE RUSTED AREA WAS CUT OUT A NEW PIECE WAS SECTIONED IN. THE REST OF THE FLOOR WAS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH JUST SURFACE RUST. THE RUST WAS NEUTRALIZED WITH A RUST CONVERTER, AND ENCAPSULATED WITH POR15. THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD NO RUST THROUGH AND WAS TREATED THE SAME AS THE DRIVER SIDE. THE FLOORS ARE SOLID NOW. WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK THERE WAS/IS A 2" x 1 1/2" HOLE IN THE LOWER INSIDE SUPPORT/BRACE ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR QUARTER. THE HOLE IS STILL THERE BUT STRUCTURE IS SOLID. THE LOWER DRIVER SIDE QUARTER BELOW THE REFLECTOR HAS BEEN REPAIRED AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE REAR SILL IS SOLID AND NO REPAIR EVIDENT. THE PO HAD OWNED THE TRUCK SINCE 2012. WHEN I BOUGHT IT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF RECURRING RUST ANYWHERE ON THE TRUCK. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, NO OTHER RUST HAS BEEN FOUND OR REPAIRED ON THE BODY. THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS ORIGINAL, NOT DETAILED, OR SPRAYED WITH ANY UNDERCOATING. THERE IS A BIT OF SURFACE RUST AND THAT'S IT.
RUNS, DRIVES AND HANDLES GREAT. NO WOBBLE, NO SQUEAKS, BUZZING, CLUNKING. DRIVES STRAIGHT, TRUE AND QUIET. 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY NO PROBLEM.
I HAVE TWO FOLDERS OF RECEIPTS FROM THE PO AND MYSELF WITH ALL OF THE RECEIPTS, $$$$$.
SUMMARY:
I RATE THIS 40 A VERY GOOD DRIVER. GOES DOWN THE ROAD STRAIGHT AND TRUE. TIGHT, SOLID, RELIABLE, AND VERY NICE TO LOOK AT. NO SQUEAKS, RATTLES, CLUNKS, OR VIBRATION. HAS BEEN STORED INSIDE SINCE 2012. STILL HAS ORIGINAL KEYS, OWNERS MANUAL(REPRO). I HAVE PUT A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY INTO THIS 40. BELIEVE ME I WOULD NOT HAVE DONE ALL THIS WORK IF THE TRUCK WAS A RUST BUCKET. THIS IS A GOOD SOLID TRUCK THAT YOU WILL BE PROUD TO OWN AND DRIVE.
