Up for sale is an unrestored 1988 FJ62 Toyota Land Cruiser in as close to original condition as they come. In the 3.5 years I’ve owned this truck, it’s been both a weekend grocery getter and at times a daily driver. In both cases, this truck shines as a reliable vehicle that just won’t quit, as is common for Toyota.
This truck hails from the west coast (LA and then Utah) and was purchased and shipped to Atlanta in January, 2017. It was ready to drive then with a freshly rebuilt engine at the time (roughly 10k miles ago from the current odometer reading) and I’ve enjoyed it immensely since. It currently shows 280,277 miles on the odometer. The metallic champagne paint is all original and in excellent condition given its age, although there are some rust spots (notably at the rear wheel wells) from its time in Utah.
Along with a rebuilt engine and regular oil changes, here’s a list of the larger items rebuilt/replaced between myself and the previous owner:
- New carpet with sound dampening layer beneath
- New upholstery (front and rear bench) matching
- New ignition wire set
- New switch transfer indicator
- New throttle position sensor
- New brake shoes at rear
- New speedometer cable
- New door/window switch assembly
- Replacement (working) radio/cassette player matching factory option
- Replacement rear differential
- Replacement main seal
All work (while in my possession) was carried out by the Land Cruiser professionals at ACC Garage here in Atlanta. Being that Toyota still makes a lot of replacement parts, OEM (or NOS) parts were always used with reproductions only as a last resort.
Nearly everything works including all lights, brakes, AC blows cold, heater blows hot, all power windows/locks, and 4 wheel drive. However being a 32+ year old vehicle, there’s always a small list of things in need of repair, including but not limited to:
- Retractable antenna has sheared off and needs replacement
- Oil pressure gauge at cluster is not working. Recently verified oil pressure is good however at the last shop visit
- Speedometer/odometer instrument not working as of a couple weeks ago. I’ve replaced the speedometer cable with a fresh OEM equivalent but to no avail
It pains me to sell this truck but it deserves (and wants) to be driven more. Truck is located in SW Atlanta. Happy to answer any questions.
