MotoeXotica Classic Cars has one ready for spring and summer work, cruising or just to appreciate. Hard enough to find in any condition, this example was purchased from the arid, eastern part of Washington state before undergoing an exhaustive, frame-off, Rotisserie-finished restoration. The market for clean, fully restored Land Cruisers is on the rise. This example has been part of a previous owner’s personal collection, acquired over the past decade. No expense was spared on refurbishing this truck and many cool touches abound. Correct Toyota parts were used whenever possible. It has the optional “headache rack†to protect the rear windows. During restoration, the chassis was coated in POR-15, a coating to prevent corrosion. The truck also has its factory tool kit – a rare find, indeed! Extra attention was devoted to ensure the factory torque-stamped bolts were restored in yellow zinc and/or replace with correct stainless steel hardware throughout.Dressed in Spring Green (code T-1028), the truck’s paint and trim are in fantastic condition overall. The bodywork is straight and solid, the truck’s glass panels are clear and intact, including the rear and wrapround, over-the-shoulder windows while the lights are haze-free and look great, including the tri-colored taillights. The engine bay sparkles and is extremely tidy while the gray front bumper looks great. In back are a pair of oversized rubber bumperettes at each corner. This truck rolls on newer America light truck tires, size 7.00-15LT at every corner. Each tire is mounted on original, gray factory split rim without wheel cover. New Old Man Emu suspension parts replace the truck’s original suspension. All leaf springs, shock absorbers, the steering stabilizer and a lift kit. The new lift provides the truck with a slightly more aggressive look while keeping an original feel but the odometer is inoperable. The Warn front locking hubs look and reportedly function as they should.Under the hood is the original Toyota 3.9L straight six-cylinder engine (code F). This torquey engine is mated to a three-speed, column-shifted manual transmission and a transfer case. The engine was decked and polished with new valves and guides where needed prior to setting clearances as stated by the long term previous Washington owner. Other new parts include an OEM water pump, thermostat, manifold, timing belt, oil pan and head gaskets. There is a rebuilt carburetor, the valve cover and air cleaner were powder coated and new spark plugs and spark plug wires were installed. The two-tone horns were brought back to specs and a new Interstate battery was added. Inside, there are newly reupholstered Coral seats that look great and contrast beautifully with the Spring Green dashboard and inner door liners. Black mats adorn the light green floor and the fresh headliner is in great shape. A three-spoke, black steering wheel is in very good order and ready for its next adventure. All handles, latches and assemblies have been replaced or refinished to keep everything crisp and new in the cab. The underdash heater unit has been gone through and is also fully functional. The metal instrument panel has a full suite of auxiliary functional gauges, a column-mounted shifter and a vintage factory heater round out the interior.Competition to this Toyota in 1966 included Chevrolet’s K10 pickup, Dodge’s D-series 4x4 pickup, Ford’s F-100 four-wheel drive pickup, GMC’s K1000 series pickup, International’s D-series 1000B 4x4 pickup, Jeep’s J2000 Gladiator-series four-wheel drive pickup.
