Car description

1977 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER FJ40 ORIGINAL 4.2L IL6 RUNS. Power steering. HARDTOP, SOLID BODY/FRAME.

Clear AZ Title & Plates in hand.

I had planned on restoring this one myself, but I no longer currently have the discretionary money to do so- due to unforeseen circumstances. This is why I am selling her.

Up for sale here is a 1977 fj40. The body is pretty solid and basically rust free from the visible exterior parts. Frame is in good shape with minimal rust. Normal rust on the undercarriage/ bottom of tub, which I consider less than average & minimal for the age of vehicle. Original 2F engine, inline 6. 4 speed, power steering, four tires with nice tread left/ minimal wea, hardly used much at all.

4 Toyota OEM wheels that are period correct for 1977. One steelie wheel for spare, that is Rusty on inner/non visible side of wheel. Original spare tire carrier mounted on rear left. No license plate holder.

I have the rear oem stock bumperettes (pre owned) that were on her. I removed them with plans to replace them with new OEM bumperette, but never did, I ran out of $. I will be included them, I will put them back on if I get the time.

Engine is currently running fine, starts up OK and idles good. Sometimes I use a spray of starter fluid if it hasn't been started in a while. Yesterday it started up nicely and was running fine at idle. Accelerator pedal is a bit sticky & has to be backed off a bit after use. The engine is running, but it's not currently drivable because the transfer case is locked up & seems to be Stuck in 4WD. I tried to get it out of four-wheel-drive But I couldn't. I can't get the 4WD shifter out of the 4WD position/ change the position of the shifter. I can drive it at low speed's around the parking lot, but only did a few times because I don't want to damage anything with transfer case locked up. It is driving a bit rough with transfer case locked up. Transmission and clutch seem functional to my knowledge when I shift. I drove down the street one time up to 25-30 mph to see how the transmission and clutch are acting; and all gears 1 thru 4 & reverse are working okay. Again, from what I can tell, the transfer case will need to be serviced. This seems to me as the primary problem. I am honestly not sure what the extent of the service required on the transfer case to get it back to normal. It could be something relatively easy to fix, or it could require a new transfer case, unknown to me.

I'm attempting to do my best to be in full disclosure and tell you buyers everything to my best knowledge, but I am not a mechanic. I do not want to Misrepresent anything or miss lead anyon, as I am an honest seller.

Please reference and read all of my feedback, almost all of it is seller feedback.

The seats upfront are not stock, but they are comfortable. I've had an fj40 With stock seats for 25 years and I'd say The replacement seats in this one are more comfortable than stock, and they recline. The rear seats are not stock either, 2 jumpseats that face forward have been welded to the floor. These jumpseats are broken and not functional. I left the welded frame as is, to leave it up to the buyer if they want to install a new bench or seats, or they can choose to remove the welded frame and try for stock jump seats or no Seats at all? Buyers choice. There is no roll bar.

The door panel on driver side is not attached tight and is loose. It will need some attention. The gauges are currently not working-fuel, temp, amp, oil & speedometer. These will need work. The is a dash pad missing on dash to the left of steering wheel.

On the floor of the tub, a previous owner has applied A black substance, similar to rhino liner or some type of resin? Most of the floor pans and bed seem OK structurally and don't appear do you have rust damage? But it's obviously hard to see underneath the black resin. The edge of the transmission hump is in rough shape and shows rust in areas. One of the seat bracket supports on the driver side is loose and currently not mounted to floor & will need repair.

The front doors open and close, but there is some play in the door latches- they are not tight when closed. Both passenger and drivers door lock. The glass in both driver and passenger door have considerable scratches from going up and down, and will need replacement eventually. Drivers glass window is worse. The drivers glass window does not function well with handle, and will need a new window regulator. The window has to be rolled up manually with both hands. Passengers glass window is OK & does roll up and down with handle.

The windshield and windshield seal are both in good shape overall.

The rear hatch door does not have the liftgate stays struts, or a handle on inside or out. Hence the rear hatch door is not really functional. I can open the rear hatch manually from the inside by pressing in the levers on side. The rear hatch door closes OK. All three rear doors will need new weatherstripping eventually. NOTE- this rear hatch door is not stock on vehicle, stock for a 1977 Fj40 Are ambulance doors. At some point previous owner replaced ambulance doors with hatch door and lower barn doors, most likely because there are more readily available. Ambulance doors can be tougher to find.

The two side vent windows will need some work, closure handles & new seals.

There is a dent on the top of left fender. Also the two rear side quarter panel's look as if they have been replaced sometim, they don't look exactly stock to me? Unsure on that? Their is a bubble in paint/rough spot on the passenger rear quarter panel- located in the area behind the tire.

On the drivers door, there is a gray mark & paint chip-as you can see in pictures. There is a paint chip on passengers door too.

The fiberglass top appears original and is in fairly good shape overall for being 40+ years old. There is currently no headliner inside on the roof.

I noticed on the driver side rear Leaf springs, a bushing needs to be replaced. The frame appears to be in good shape structurally. The driveshaft only has two bolts attaching it rather than four- two holes don't lineup. The driveshaft Is still completely functional as is with only two bolts, It's just worth noting that two bolts are missing because holes don't lineup.

My guess is that the driveshaft may have been replaced sometime and is not stock?

I just put on brand new rotors, calipers and brake pads, as well as a brake line. Brand new fresh battery, fresh oil change. I replace some bulbs to get any lights working that I could.

*Mileage exempt. The cruiser is being sold as is per my pictures and description. There is no implied warranty.

* This cruiser seems as if it would make a good restoration candidate if the buyer desired to go that route. Or, if the buyer wants a cruiser to go 4x4 off-roading and explore the mountains or desert and not care if she got scratches or a little wear and tear ( basically do what these were made to do), this is also a good candidate for off-roading.

Either way, what I do know is that at a bare minimum the transfer case is locked up, and seems to be stuck in 4WD, and will need service. The cruiser does need some other work, but it is up to the buyer to decide how far they want to go with it. For a restoration, it will need quite a bit of work. For an off-roading 4 x 4, not as much work. That's my take.

I have tried my best to give you buyers an honest description of the condition of this cruiser.

* The cruiser is a bit dirty in the pictures I provided. I didn't get a chance to wash her. For example on top of the hood the spot you see are dirt. I'm going to try and wash the cruiser after work today and hopefully provide some better updated pictures, more pictures & A video of her starting up and engine running for you guys.

Here is the history I know of the cruiser. This fj40 was originally made for the South American market, it's origin is Venezuela. Not exactly sure when it migrated from Venezuela to the US? I bought it from a seller in Florida a while back, and transferred title to Arizona. Clean AZ title and plates in hand. Vehicle is currently located in zip 92656, CA

My preferred method of payment will be bank transfer.

Buyer Will need to bring a tow dolly or trailer, it will need to be towed home due to the transfer case being locked up. I can assist with vehicle pick up coordination if buyer wants to ship her on a truck, shipping expense is on the buyer.

Thank you for viewing my listing. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to call me.
