Car description

I purchased this 1988 Toyota Cressida on 3/9/2015. It had 67,000 miles on it. I used this car for my daily driver from 2015 until 2019. It now has 126,161 miles on it. In March 2019, I have had four new KYB shocks installed, four new Primewell PS830 tires installed balanced, and aligned. New steering rack installed with fresh fluid and new tie rods. New Transmission filter, gasket, and fluid, engine oil and filter changed, freshly detailed and waxed. New timing belt installed, A/C Freon has been added and blows cold. New four wheel disc brakes (calipers, rotors, pads, and fluid) have also been installed. Prior to this recent service, a new battery was installed in January 2019, the radiator was replaced with new Antifreeze. The exhaust and muffler were replaced behind the catalytic converter. In 2015, I had new spark plugs, wires, and drive belts installed. I installed a rare Double Din Kenwood "Dolphin" DPX-701 radio with remote control that looks "period correct" for the age of the car but still modern enough to sound great, Kicker speakers rear, Pioneer speakers front, Sirius XM, and trunk mounted CD Changer. Power antenna is unplugged but works, I listen to Sirius XM instead. I can plug the antenna back in at buyers request. If used in a cold weather climate the antenna will break and is difficult to replace. The Sirius XM channel information displays in the Kenwood radio itself and does not require a separate screen. I installed an "aux-in" 3.5mm plug in the console below the emergency brake lever if you want to stream music from a phone or other device through the speakers. I also updated the glovebox light to modern LED strips using a kit intended for Jeep vehicles. The glove box light was tapped into the radio power so it works anytime the ignition is on like most vehicles. The original Toyota set-up used a very weak light source and only worked when the headlights were on. The original wires were safely plastic capped and electrical taped behind the dashboard. I installed the new glove box light when I installed the radio. All work was performed with care and safety as a top priority. The Toyota plunger still turns the glove box light off when the glove box door is closed.
Some very light for New England surface rust on the edge of the lower fuel door, edge of the sunroof, and edge of the passenger side rear fender near the door. The horn works, the horn for the Toyota alarm system has been disabled. The Toyota alarm does work. However, the driver side door alarm contact does not work. So if you lock and unlock the door using the key on the driver side keyhole, the alarm will not activate. However, if you use the power lock switch to lock the doors then the alarm will activate. When you open the driver side door with the key the alarm will "go off" by blinking the lights only. The alarm can then be deactivated by placing the key in the ignition and turning the ignition switch on or by unlocking the passenger side door with the key. I just lock the door with the key in the drivers side keyhole when I get out of the car and bypass the system. The contact can be replaced at an alarm, car lock shop or Toyota dealer. There is a small dent in the top of the passenger side fender that was there when I purchased the car in 2015. Looks like it may have been damaged in transit from Japan(?) because the rest of the fender looks to be as new and that is an odd place for a car to be 'hit' without damaging any other surrounding area like the windshield or A-Pillar. It never bothered me enough to get it repaired and does not have any rust surrounding it. The windshield is a "Toyota" stamped unit and to my knowledge has not been replaced.
The HVAC fan works all three speeds (Low, Medium, and High) in "Auto" mode. The "Low" and "High" manual fan settings do not work. The "Medium" manual fan setting does work. I just set the HVAC fan setting to "Auto" and the system works fine. The car does consume between one to two quarts of oil between oil changes. This is a common issue for all Toyota's of this vintage. When owning vehicles out of warranty it is important for the owner to check and maintain all fluid levels on a regular basis. Adding one container of Bardahl's No Smoke and Stop Leak when changing the oil minimizes oil consumption during the interval between oil changes. Bardahl's is available at all Wal-Mart Stores in New England.Other than that the car is very clean, nice, and drives excellent for being 31 years old. The paint is factory and called "White Pearl" it was only offered on this body style in 1988, the final year for this body style. I am selling because I inherited my dads Hyundai Sonata and as much as I love the Cressida, it has to go. My family has owned five Cressidas' over the years (82, 85, 86, 87, and 88) this is by far the best Cressida we have had and is a very solid car. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. All paperwork, service history, and Toyota Manuals go to the buyer along with original window sticker (1988 MSRP $22,118) inflation adjusted in 2019 is $47,260. All paperwork that I have is pictured and to have this amount of paperwork for a 31 year old car is both historically significant and a testament to the owners' that have had the pleasure to drive and care for this car since 1988.
Here is your chance to own a genuine Made in Japan, Toyota Rear Wheel Drive Inline Six Cylinder Sedan. Don't let this chance pass you by! Thank You for taking time to look at this car and Good Luck!
