Car description |

You ever think that you'll never see something again, like a white buffalo ex-GF, $20 that you lost a week ago, your entire wallet after a bad pub crawl, or your abs after you stopped being a teenager? Yeah I didn't think i'd ever see a 1 owner AE86 Corolla GTS that was driven by a woman for 30+ years and never bought by a kid and modified into oblivion a decade ago when intial D was relevant. AND it is a factory LSD car (not all GTS had LSD rear axles) AND it is a legit MECHAPANDA 2C5 silver black two tone car which was only made for one year.
Let me just say something brief about these cars. There is a reason they are the legend they are. This car is not the best at anything. But there is something really special about them, they have a unique personality no other car matches stock. These cars have a soul, they are analog with a touch of digital, it is all you with very little help other than reliability. There is nothing quite like it and if you have never driven one this specific car can still deliver that feeling 33 years after it was built without any single component being rebuilt, few other cars can pull that off. My friend and I have owned this car for the last 4 years after purchasing from the original owner who still had the 1985 title paper in a lock box. Never thought we would be selling it.
But here we are ladies and gentleman. We were literally driving through the country on the way to go mountain biking at a new trail and saw this rare a$$ mechapanda 85 Corolla GTS coupe sitting in this ladies yard under a tree 4 years ago. Left a note in her mailbox promising to take good care of the car if she was willing to sell. I am a Toyota master tech of the 90's and I pride myself in saving cars lives that are worth saving. As you might guess the car didn't need much to get running, even being 30 years old, its still a Toyota with a 4AGE.
She had just let it sit there for 3 years after getting some bad gasoline that had water in it, the trees constantly shed leaves/nuts onto it filling up the gaps around the trunk and causing the water to not be able to drain properly which rusted the underside of the trunk and the very top of the rear body panel + spare tire well. But the car doesnt have any cancer anywhere since it spent its entire life in Charlotte where there is no snow! This car resided at the same house for 30 years! And i'm not going to lie, she did not own a garage lol. BUT she did have a good mechanic who she had been taking the car to for 30 years for all the routine maintnenance. She bought the car from City Toyota, it still had the original license plate cover on it from a dealer that hasn't even existed for 20 years. All I did was make an access plate in the trunk underneath the carpet to access the fuel pump, replaced the fuel pump, cleaned the rust chips/water out of the tank, put some water removal in the system, dropped some fresh gas in it and it fired right up. Changed the fuel filter, and 2 of the injectors were toast so it has balanced & rebuilt injectors in it now, it has more compression and runs stronger than any other stock 4AGE i've ever driven. Have you ever seen a silver/black Mechapanda AE86 in person? Neither had I, like the Yellow SR5's they are rare. The factory vinyl decals are in good shape. Lets get down to the details.
Exterior: Here are the problems with the exterior, the paint is faded (shocker), it has a dent in the left fender, a dent in the back of the roof, and the right quarter was painted a decade ago and has faded more than the rest of the car. BUT, it still has all 4 center caps on the wheels. The LSD sticker and the engine bay stickers are all still there which is uncommon at this age to say the least. This car has never been in any sort of a car on car accident in its life. The quarter had a dent which is why it was painted, you can see the remanents of that dent in the portion covered by vinyl which the body shop couldnt duplicate and didnt want to mess with so they didnt repair that part, just taped it off. The other dents could be fixed by a paintless dent removal guy easy. The front bumper lip is still in place which is something on its own. The trim pieces have flaked off as you can see, but all in all it is a SOLID car to start with. There is zero undercarriage rust or damage, hell the engine splash shield is still in place. The chassis is perfectly straight. All the lights/features work and the windshield is brand new (branch fell on it). The car even has the factory rain gaurds over the windows and the trick luggage rack on the trunk with integrated spoilerish deal. Everything opens and closes like it should. Headlights pop up and down on command. Any other questions?
Interior: The car has all 4 matching original floor mats. The drivers one has been summarily murdered by womens shoes that have pointy bits. The dash has 1 crack, the seats have obviously been sitting in the sun..............for 30 years. And for some reason the slide out coin tray above the radio is a different color than everything else in the car, kind of like it left the car for a decade on some life finding europe trip and came back with new problems. The radio works great and it is the only modification to the car really. Well the muffler was replaced at some point, oh and it actually has like new pioneer speakers in all 4 corners but you'd never be able to tell as all the factory speaker grilles were re-installed. Even the drivers air pump lumbar still works. I'll end this section with the statement that a detail could go miles.
Mechanical: Ah yes. The engine is 110%. It got a recent tuneup with nothing but Aisin and Denso components. Everything works, the A/C needs to be recharged (good luck finding R12) but its all there. Power steering, brakes, clutch master, cooling etc.. Engine doesn't smoke, it doesn't knock, it never even gets to half way on the temp gauge, strongest oil pressure i've ever seen on a 200k mile stock 4AGE. No vacuum leaks (on 30 year old vacuum hoses). It even has a brand new Denso pink air filter. The clutch was slipping when I got it, big surprise it has only had 1 clutch put in it the entire life of the car. So now it has a genuine Exedy stage 1 cutch w/ XTD 10lbs forged steel lightweight flywheel just to make things fun. Syncromesh trans fluid and mobil 1 rear axle fluid w/ LSD additive. Shifter bushings are still like new surprisingly. The brakes were already done shortly before she parked it, E-brake is tight like new, brakes work perfect, and I bled the clutch fluid when the clutch was done. Wrap you're mind around this, the valve cover gaskets don't leak into the spark plug valley............ I don't know if she just had that much work done to it but I also cant complain. The radiator is fairly new, as is the battery that I just put in and the thermostat. Topped off the power steering fluid. Oddly enough it doesn't make a single pop/squeak odd noise driving it. No vibrations, pulls straight as an arrow. Tires have full like new tread, and are directional all 4 match, they're just old as they didn't get a lot of miles before sitting, they are dryrotted but they all hold air no issues I would still replace them. No check engine light, no electrical issues. Heck i'm not sure the fuse box had ever been opened before me checking things out. I even cracked open the ECU and the circuit board is perfect. Still has the factory exhaust with working catalytic convertor, the muffler is just a turbo 2 deal, louder than stock and flows a little more but not loud or annoying. I assume the original one died at some point. The fuel pump is out of a Lexus LS400 (direct drop in upgrade). TVIS STILL WORKS!
That's it, any questions feel free to call/txt or if you want to come test drive it we can set something up.
