1993 MR2 SW20 Turbo 5-speed T-Bar 39K Miles Excellent Condition!
After a lot of deliberation, I’m selling my 1993 MR2 Turbo. I bought this car in April of 2016 out of Nevada but just haven’t had the chance to use it as I thought I would. Other hobbies seem to occupy my time so I’m going to let the car go to someone who will hopefully give it the attention it deserves.
Car is completely bone stock and unmolested. Runs and drives just like it did in 1993. Car starts and runs perfectly with no known mechanical issues. Full meticulous service performed less than 1,000 miles ago including timing belt, water pump, thermostat, clutch, hoses, plus many gaskets and seals at a cost of over $2,000. Receipt for work will be included. Brakes work perfect. Steers straight with no vibrations. Recent new battery. Mobil One synthetic oil. Car is in tip top shape and ready to drive anywhere.
Exterior of car shows very well for a 25+ year old car. Up close paint shows minor fading as you would expect from a car this age. One scratch on edge of hood as seen in the photos. Other than that just a few rock chips from normal driving. I have color matched touch up paint that I will include if you want to touch up. There is one very small door ding on the right rear quarter panel I imagine from leaning into the engine bay servicing the car. Less than the size of a dime. I tried to capture in the photos but difficult to get it to show up. You likely wouldn’t notice but trying to be very honest about the condition of the car. Could easily be removed with PDR. Rest of the body looks laser straight and as you can see from the photos looks great! Original wheels are in nice shape with no curb rash. Yokohama tires with nearly new tread. All lights work including pop up headlights.
Interior is very clean. Dash is in great condition. Seats show virtually zero wear. Carpet looks brand new. Even the original floor mats hardly show any wear. Radio works fine and the antenna extends and retracts as it should. Speakers sound good including the optional subs behind both seats. All buttons, lights, and switches work as they should. Power windows, mirrors, and locks work as new. Never smoked in and no funny odors. May be one of the nicest SW20 interiors in existence. I can’t say enough how nice it is. Pictures don’t do it justice.
The front trunk, or “frunk”, is clean and tidy. Original spare is in place and doesn’t look as if it’s ever been on the ground. The trunk in the rear looks brand new. Doesn’t look like it has ever even had anything in it. Engine compartment shows very clean and tidy for a 25 year-old car. No modifications and unmolested. Inserts for T-tops are present and clean. Storage bags for when the T-tops are removed are in the car. Original owner’s manual is in the glove box. Overall in amazing condition.
The only thing I know on the whole car that is not OEM is the previous owner installed a Clifford car alarm. I have never used it and don’t know anything about it but the key fob is on the key ring. I do have the owners guide and will include. Could easily be removed or you may want to keep it for security reasons.
There are only a couple things I have not gotten around to. One is converting the AC to 134a. My local mechanic said he would swap it over for me but I just haven’t had time to drop it off. AC still blows cool but I think it could be a bit cooler if serviced. Second is the tach and speedo seem to read a bit low. This is a well documented phenomenon that happens to all SW20’s sooner or later. The capacitors in the cluster start to age. You can Google it for more info. I made this repair on other MR2’s I have owned but just haven’t done it on this car yet. Any flaws mentioned are just being super critical of a really nice car. A lot of maintenance and care has gone into keeping this car in original condition.
Car is an absolute blast to drive. Handles like it’s on rails. Turbo spools up quickly and it really moves. Hard to drive it without a big grin on your face! Exterior shows very minor wear consistent with its age as outlined above. Interior and other compartments look practically new. A true time capsule. It’s getting harder and harder to find a stock unmolested SW20 MR2, especially with low miles. They just don’t come around very often.
Deposit due within 24 hours of winning bid via Papal. Remaining balance to be paid in cash or cashiers check within 7 days of close of auction. I’d be happy to pick you up at the Knoxville airport or make the car available for shipping. Please see my feedback and bid with confidence. I try to be very honest and transparent on anything I sell. Car is listed other places so I reserve the right to end any time if it sells. Sure I’m forgetting some things so feel free to contact me with any questions and I’ll do my best to answer.
Thanks for taking the time to view my auction!
On Oct-12-18 at 07:45:02 PDT, seller added the following information:Good morning and thanks to everyone for the questions. Answers to a few.
There is "minor accident or damage report" back in 1994. It states it was "non collision" and I see no evidence of paint work anywhere. Since it was 24 years ago and I did not own the car then I have no way of knowing what that was. Maybe broken into and that's why it now has an alarm on it now? Who knows and we can only guess. I've been over and over the car and can't find anything that doesn't look original.
I highly doubt the car had any paint work done because all panels have the same fade and "patina" that these red Toyota paint jobs get after 25 years. It would be almost impossible for any different paint work to age exactly like the rest.
On that note paint could use a good buffing after 25 years. I had a red 91 that I had buffed and it came out practically new but these old Toyota paint jobs are thin so it makes me a bit nervous to get crazy with a buffer. I'm sure a pro would know what to do if you really want to take it to the next level.
Car could go to museum quality with a q-tip cleaning and multi day detail but as you can see in the photos it shows very nice and well above average. Please be realistic about your expectations of a 25 year old car. Please look at the photos. It is a really nice example and there aren't many outside car collectors in this condition.
Car does have power steering.
Keep the questions coming and have a great day!
Good to see the love for SW20's is alive and strong! Over 1,550 views and closing in on 100 watchers in less than 72 hours. Some recent questions:
T-top seals are in perfect shape and do not leak. I'll get pictures Monday for those that are interested.
Car has no rust. I will get it up on a lift Monday and take pictures underneath for those that have requested.
Knoxville TN is the closest airport to me. Approximately an hour away. I may be able to deliver enclosed within 500 miles or so for compensation after payment has cleared. Preferably over a weekend. Don't assume, but I am willing to entertain.
If you have asked me a question and I have not gotten back to you I apologize and please ask again. It's been a bit overwhelming and I may have forgotten to circle back to someone. I want to get everyone the information they requested.
Thanks again for everyone's interest!
I now have pictures underneath. If you requested and havent recieved or would like to see them please let me know. I can send through eBay or you can send me an email address. If you want a photo of something specific I will try to accomodate.
Thanks again to everyone for your interest and have a great day!
