Car description

Huber Automotive Presents: 1972 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser

We love vintage cars and trucks, and this little FJ40 is a fantastic example, in excellent overall condition with years of history and a unique back story, and what appears to be only 51k original miles. This truck was refinished over the years to be a very nice driver, solid and road-worthy, and that's exactly what it is. There are over 120 pictures loaded below, 5 video links of underneath as well as a quick driving video, and we did all of the service work and upgrades over the past 6 years here at our shop, so we've been under, over, through, and around it considerably. Service records are available for the new owner, and a summary of work done will be shown below.

History: We originally purchased this FJ from a local guy who owned 3 of them, claiming he'd "never sell" one when approached by the owner of our dealership back in 2011. He reluctantly decided otherwise, and we purchased it and brought it back to our dealership. We then sold it to a longtime friend and customer in December 2011, when it had approx. $1k actual miles. Over the past 6 years, he put approx 10k miles on it, with around the town driving and occasionalshort trips to surrounding cars and coffee events, etc. It was also upgraded, worked on, updated, etc with a full list of various cosmetic and mechanical items during that time by our service department at the request of the vehicle's owner (a car nut and serious enthusiast). Then, on a whim approximately 30 days ago, we acquired a 1972 Datsun 240z on trade, and sure enough, the owner of this FJ had to have it, so he traded in the Toyota for the 240.

We're thrilled to offer this FJ here on Ebay. It's a fantastic truck, at what we believe to be an excellent value.

Paint, body, underneath etc: The body appears to be all original and SUPER solid. This truck came from New Mexico ( I even found a Drive in movie ticket stub in it for $1.00 from a theater in New Mexico!) and it certainly shows. The frame, floors, wheel wells, etc are all super clean with only light surface corrosion as you can see in the photos and videos. The paint was an "exterior" refinish only and is driver quality, showing very well considering. The body doesn't show any signs that I could find of filled holes, etc (you can see the back sides of the panels from underneath in most areas), and the only bubbling I found is the lower back piece under where the license plate is (pictured below).

Drivability: This FJ has what appears to be the original 6cyl and 3-speed manual transmission, and it runs, shifts, and drives VERY well. The ignition has been upgraded, clutch replaced, carb rebuilt, and much more (summarized below). Out on the road and around town, this FJ is really fun and gets the looks for sure.

Mechanical:The following has been upgraded/replaced: Radiator and hoses, rotor and cap, wires and plugs, fuel filter, Petronix ignition, Spector Header and custom exhaust, Clutch, rear main seal, 8 wheel cylinders, brake shoes on all 4 corners, brake lines, rebuilt carb, choke cable, rear axle seal, headlight conversion, 5 BFG tires, factory era fog lights.

Conclusion: This FJ is fantastic, well sorted, complete, and ready for it's new owner. It's not a $50k resto-mod, but it's not a $15 "needs total restoration" either. It's an enjoy it as it sits, or frame off and get your $50k for it. Our buy it now is $25,900. It's 51k miles, super solid, and ready. Although not what many would consider a Concourse-winner, this is a beautiful, top-level driver and would hold it's own in any club event, local show, etc. Inspections here at our facility are welcome.
