Car description

RARE Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 Tropical
Certified and Documented by Toyota as an ORIGINAL MODEL.
What you are bidding on, is a rare Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 Tropical, made for the African market by Toyota Japan.
This particular model was imported brand new in Cameroon and owned by a Diplomat.
The car stayed in Africa, with the owner for almost 20 years.
Then the car was brought back to Netherlands, the Diplomat's homeland, and this is when I acquired the vehicle.
What's rare about those car is that, just few hundred were made.
Toyota estimates around 500 of those exact cars were imported in Africa.
Exact number is unknown due to the fact that only the few and privileged people could own one and the exorbitant price to buy one.
The VIN is: FJ4095334
Toyota in Japan is aware that I own this car and aware of their production and existence ..... but the Japanese Toyota Headquarter never saw an actual car still in its original condition, running and so well documented.
For Toyota in Japan and to their own record, this is the ONLY ONE survivor accounted for so far.
It's the rarest Toyota LandCruiser FJ 40 and chances to see an other one = NULL.
Actually, the style of the body belongs to a 1969 year model but by the time those cars arrived in Africa and became street legal at their final destination, sometime it was taking up to a year, thus the 1970 on the original Title.
This is the last year they were made with the wipers on the top of the windshield.
Last year with the small turning signal.
Last year with adjustable exterior mirror.
Last year with both folding seats.
My car is highly documented from day 1. I will provide the original documents, NOT copies.
What you see on the pictures are actual ORIGINALS.
The only copy I have, is for the first Title ever issued in Cameroon.
The paperwork for Customs dated back in the 90's are all original with rubber stamps and postal stamps still in place.
Those cars were made ONLY for Africa and no where else and have their own specifications.
Those specifications are from Toyota Factory in Japan and this car is highly documented.
  • There is NO heater. For that reason, the firewall does NOT have the holes in the passenger side upper corner were the blower is attached and NO hoses.
  • There is NO floor mat to avoid condensation and rust.
  • There is NO door panel. To avoid rust, there is a minimum of unnecessary metal and doors panels are made of canvas.
  • There is NO regulator or window mechanism. It's a three position latch that holds the window in place. No regulator, No rust.
  • There is NO radio. Less worry in humid atmosphere.
  • There is NO tools. Less weight.
  • There is NO spare tire. Less weight.
  • There is NO soft top to avoid mildew or growth of undesired mold. There is the factory frame where you can have you own soft top made to order. The convertible top will have to be custom made. Toyota has designed an original frame of its own. The cross bar above the front seats folds so the soft top has a slant position and do not accumulate water. Or when it's raised, the soft top creates a turbulence that will cool off during hot temperature.
  • The fan tunnel is galvanized to improve cooling and limit the rust.

Those cars were made lightweight for mud crossing. There is no extra metal or parts.

Since the cars were intended for Africa, they were delivered with huge knobby tires and that car preserves that look.

Beside a paint made in Africa, the car is 100% original from the day it was delivered.

She has the perfect patina.

There is NO Bondo, mastic or fiberglass and the body. The car has been 100% rust free her entire life.

The motor is untouched, unopened, straight original along with all cables, wires, etc .... same as day one.

Tags on the motor and parts are originals from Toyota.

The rear bench folding seats are original.

The car is also highly documented and comes with:

  • Original owner's manual. It's from Toyota factory and shows some humidity marks from Cameroon.
  • Copy of the Original Title when the car was first registered in Cameroon from the original owner.
  • Copy of the Certificate of Authenticity from Toyota.
  • Copy of the Certificate of Conformity from Toyota.
  • Lots of invoices from Cameroon and few from Holland.
  • Photos of the original family in Cameroon with their soon to be, former car.

Rust free car as it was kept in a garage and myself, I keep my cars garaged.

I know that, once the car is gone, I won't get nor see another one.

So convince my emotions.

Again, you will NOT have a chance to find an other well documented and rare FJ40.

The car has a free and clear Florida Title under my name at 310.735.5355.
To whom will buy the vehicle, I can help with shipping by recommending you to a broker and/or I can keep the car in my garage by the time you arrange for transportation.

Happy Bidding.
