I have owned this classic FJ40 for about 15 years. Bought in rough shape and did a partial restoraton about 12 years ago, patch panels welded in, painted body basecoat/clearcoat in ford Taurus steel blue metallic, chrome plated the grill mesh and headight surround, removable hardtop, dashboard and capped black pad, headliner, recovered front 40/60 seat black with added headrests, added 3 point shoulder belts to roll bar and jump seat belts from an s10, new ignition switch and push button start, courtesy light, added dual heddman headers and glasspack single exhaust, made a custom rear heater surround, creme lined the original fuel tank, fabbed custom front and rear bumpers, 4" lift rough country springs and shocks, honed wheel cylinders and relined brake shoes, installed foam lined fabric black headliner, concealed cd player inside the glove box, gator guarded the entire floor and wheel houses, new windshield...time passes.....gave her to my son to go off to college, she came back 2 years later with a blown engine. Tried replacing the burned piston but it didnt take, so I found a freshly completely rebuilt 1974 2F engine and tranny, replaced the troublesome 3 on the tree with a floorshift and 4 wheel drive floor shifter, so the vacuum activated 4 wheel drive mechanism is no longer needed. Life happened, divorce and business happened, and didnt go any further on it....The fj has languished around the house for 6 years now, decided to let it go, so I finally recently cleaned it up and got the wiring hooked up and brand new engine running. Lights turn signals brake lights work with a new fuse block and battery. Horn butto, fogs and back up lights do not. Drives down the road but needs love, hubs are locked up, probably tie rod ends, tires need replacing, carb may need cleaning- coughs a bit and cold natured from ethanol blight again (rebuilt about 2 years but 0 miles ago), drip rail needs work and fiberglass up top needs repainting, comes with a bucket of extra parts from original engine, jack and tool, headlight wiring diagram, original steel doors and double flip up jump seats that I never covered but mounts are installed, an extra unrestored straight hood (the mounted hood has bondo from prior owner slamming it against the windshield), the original spare tire mount which I removed. Great solid crawler with only surface rust on the underside of parts of frame. A rare gem that wants someone to love.
