Reluctantly I'mselling my 1983 Toyota, 4WD, pickup. A couple of months ago I was getting on the91 freeway and spotted what I thought was a column rebar that turned out to be a roll of wire. The wire wrapped aroundthe drive shaft pulling me into aK rail.
I startedtorepair the truck, but I’m 70 years old and three years ago I was hit by a truckfrom behind whileriding my bicycle. Spent 65 days in the hospital with a shattered pelvis and a collapsedlung. I lost 55 pounds and checked out of the hospital at 102 pounds, I’m 5'10". After threeyears I’m still recovering and find the repairs are more than I can handle.
I took the truck to Maaco and had the frame straightened, but the truck needs additionalsuspension work. It will need a couple of leaf springs with the shackles and the barholding thefront wheels together is slightly bent, possible could be straighten or a new one?
The odometer shows 425,472, but the engine was replaced 4/12/2004 with 340,774 miles, so theengine has 84,698. The transmission was overhauled 4/26/2016at 423,200, so the transmission has 2,272miles. The transmission work included a new case, rear retainer, shifter bushing and a newHeavy Duty clutch. The transfer case has very little use, only a couple of blizzards in Colorado, few ski tripsand pulling my sailboat through the sand a few timesin Nebraska.
I purchased the truck from Burt Toyota in Denver, August 26, 1983 with 11 miles. I have 34years of paperwork describing all that has been done to the truck during that time. The picturesshow what is needed for the repair. Besides the parts missing in the pictures, it is going to need adifferential seal and possibly an engine real seal. It leaks a little oil and I’m not sure where it’scoming from. It would make a great project truck, farm vehicle or a parts truck.
It does have aCB radio, does it work, I think so, it did the last time there was an antenna hooked up to it.The air-conditioner worked perfectly for 33 years, but went out last September, so it will need anair-conditioned if you chose.
The truck has very little rust, it was under coated when new and the only a small amount ofrust is in the bed. Thefenders and body are fine.
It’s been a great truck and if I could do the work I would keep it, but time marches on . . .
