Car description |
---|
1993 Toyota Celica GT convertible with the 2.2L 5S-FE motor and a four-speed automatic transmission with OD, converted by ASC. Has about 198,000 miles on it. Clean examples of these are getting pretty rare. I have $1,200 into it assuming my time has no value; relisting at less than that and with better pictures.
After completing most of an extensive tuneup the starter went out when I tried to fire it back up. This, moving out of state, and the concurrent departure of my wife was basically the death knell of my involvement with this project car.
Good:NO RUST. See picture of trunk spare tire well.Recently serviced--trans flush and fill, brake bleed, oil changed, power steering fluid changed (invoice pictured).New batteryNew rotor/cap/wires/plugs/coil/condenser.Rebuilt distributor to fix common 5S-FE oil leakage from shaft seal.New coolant temperature sender and thermostat w. coolant flush.New throttle position sensor, adjusted to factory spec.New ported vacuum valve (TVV/BVSV)New throttle body gasketNew starter (not installed)New trunk lid struts (not installed)Cleaned and tested EGR.Cleaned and adjusted throttle body to factory spec.Climate control including AC works.Power windows work.Good tire tread.Good brakes.Good windshield.Convertible top is leak-free. Drove home an hour in the rain, only got spray from the side window weatherstripping being nearly 25 years old.Pop-up headlights both raise and lower correctly!Tracks and drives straight when it runs.
Bad:Rear quarter-windows very slow to lower, do not raise without help. Regulators are old.Convertible top does not lower or raise under power. Motors and fluid tank in trunk are intact.Cruise control does not work.Needs new struts all around.Fog lights did not work that I could determine.Rear convertible top window is very fogged w. one small tear.Wiper stalk has no friction stops--will fall down unless something put underneath it to block motion.Side window tint is shoddy and coming off.Paint (black over original red) is oxidized and would greatly benefit from serious attention.Dent in driver's front bumper--does NOT make contact with anything while turning.Tachometer doesn't work--this is apparently two capacitors that fail and can be easily resoldered.Gauge cluster and trim not secured. Changed all the backlighting from 90s green bulbs to contemporary red LEDs and wanted to see if everything worked correctly before buttoning it all back up--this was when it failed to start.Tear in driver's seat and generally dirty interior--nothing a good shampoo wouldn't fix.
I have the key and a clean blue Texas title. Buyer will need to secure transportation but it'll roll, steer, and stop just fine.
Winning buyer will also get a copy of the FSM (the BGB, "Big Green Book") on a USB stick. Get ready to hit the road for summer and thanks for looking.
