Car description

1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with original 2F engine.
Thanks for the numerous emails, offers, test drivesand overall interest in this vehicle. Looks like we are getting very close to that 'magic-figure' to insure a positive transaction for the new owner!
I have owned a total of 14 FJ40s and 2 FJ45 pickups in the last 30 years and this stock '78 is a nice one!. It has95% of the 'original-stuff'' still on it AND that stuff still functions! I currently have two other FJ40s and the facility-spacerequires this one to be adopted. I have a passion for these vehicles and I'm certain that the new owner will love it.Respectfully, there areonly afew FJ40s out there, compared toother vehicles. The best one for you will likely be a combination of quality& affordability, which equals the best value. I'm confident this FJ40 will meet those requirements!
I live 40 minutes northwest of Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and 90 minutes northwest of Hobby Airport in Houston, TX.I welcome you to inspect and drive this vehicle and you will agree as to the valueof this FJ40.
Interior:Front seats and jump seats inFJ40 stock charcoal-grey are in very nice condition.Driver & passenger floorboards and cargo bed are in great condition (see photos). Two coats of Zero-Rust product (as a base) and 3 coats of Raptor bed liner (with matching paint) was applied to the driver and passenger floor boards. I left the transmission hump stock, however it can be finished to match the floor boards. I will include a can of extra paint.Knobs and switches are present and operate:Wipers slow& fast operationalChoke, hazard, fan low & high, fresh air, warm air all function. Vent/heat/defrost knobs present and heater functions. Rear heater was disassembled, cleaned and it has an easy-access, quick disconnect wire to turn it on & off. It works well and will certainly warm-your-cargo.Cigarette lighter is present but does not work. There is a home-made piece of plastic (easily removed)to cover the hole where the AM/FM radio was removed.Antennae is present. All gauges operate correctly and hold steady. (Nice that this FJ40 holds engine temp on the cool side).Emergency brake holds the vehicle stationary.Horn functions with two horn assemblies on the side of the radiator shroud.Gauges, dash, heater and dome lights all function. Dome light plastic cover is cracked.Sun visors and rear view mirror are functional.New 4-speed shift knob.Side window defoggers and hoses from heater are present and functional.New pedal pads for brake, clutch and gas.Glove box....you can eat out of there it is so clean!Driver & passenger windows roll up and down properly.Driver, passenger, ambulance doors and fuel doorlock & unlock with TWO sets of keys.Headliner is not present, however the top has been properly prepared& is ready for a replacement liner. These run about $150 from Cruiser Corps.Jump seats fold down and stow up properly with the spring-assisted leg-mounts.Seat belts for both front and both jump seats present and function properly. Driver chest strap is slightly frayed on the edges.Rubber weather striping around all doors and windows are in good condition.Roll cage is present and has the four padded pieces intact.
Exterior:Turn signal/running, emergency, tail, head, brake, reverse, side marker and license lights are present and function properly. All emblems front, side and rear are present.Hood latches and windshield latches function properly.Side mirrors are tight and glass is solid.Antennae attached.Kick vents function properly and there is NO air conditioner on this vehicle.Spare tire holder swings open and closes properly and holds stable. No cracks or dings on any of the glass.White top is ingood condition with solid gutter rails and only minor scratches.Thisvehicle does have a few scratches on it from it's38 year tour-of-duty. There is a scar and a 'rub-spot' on the right-rear panel. There are three small holes where rust was repaired/treated: left rear quarter panel, left front panel above side step and left rear behind spare tire mount. There is a small area where paint is discolored on the right middle panel.Tires areGoodyear Wrangler MT/R 31 x10.50R 15LT. One is practically new7 the other four (including spare) have 35% of remaining tread.Wheels are Z Racing made in USA and provide a nice on and off road look to the vehicle.Stripes on the sides and hood: I was going to remove them and two potential buyers recommend that I leave them as they added a unique look. Therefore, the stripes stay in order to allow the new owner the option of "stripes or no stripes'.Rear double tube bumper mounts to the same four mounting holes as the stock bumperettes. The tubes are thick gauge steel with water tight plastic caps on the ends for small storage. It has a built in receiver-hitch.Stock front bumper is straight and solid. The top, side panels, front and ambulance doors can be removed and windshield folded forward for a real convertible that can go anywhere.***The original coloris Olive Green (most Land Cruiser owners refer to it as Olive-Brown as it is more brown than green), That code is 653 (see VIN plate photo) from Toyota and used as a stock paint for vehicles dated '78 - '82. It is a nice, unique color! All FJ40s from the factory had a stage acrylic enamel paint job. This finish was not the shiny-high-gloss paint that we see on more modern vehicles, but rather a low-luster shine. It is common for owners to have a FJ40 sprayed-over with a clear-coat as these vehicles (like any other painted surface) tend to fade after 20-30 yrs.It appears as though a previous-previous owner had that done to protect the vehicleand add to the appearance
Engine, Transmission, Frame, etc..:Stock 2F engine, runs very well. Warn locking hubs rotate smoothly.Transfer shifts into H2, H4 and L4 as it should with mild resistance, as it should.Four-speed & reverse shift smoothly through all gears.Exhaust was painted w/500 degree engine paint and is ingood condition for it's age.Clutch and brake pedals are strong. Vehicle accelerates and stops properly.Steering is straight and easy on the road. There isNO power steering. All heat shields, splash guards and skid plates are intact.Frame is solid and applied Zero Rust only to protect and prolong the condition of this well-preserved vehicle.Although the body was ingood condition, under coating was sprayed to protect and provide that clean, custom look.
I live on a 1/4 mile circle, therefore it will be easy for transport drivers to pickup the vehicle, as they have done in the past. I will assist them in any inspection and loading of the vehicle.Require an immediate payment of $1,000 (non-refundable) within 12-hours through PayPal.
