Car description |
---|
If you are looking for a car of distinction with a stately and regal appearance, look no further than this gorgeous 1942 Studebaker Commander Skyway Land Cruiser. The top of its line in the Commander Series, the Land Cruiser offered a limousine-like rear passenger compartment, rear fender skirts, and premium trim and appointments. The last of models available before the halt of automobile production due to World War II, it is one of just 2,704 produced.
This beautiful Land Cruiser is finished in Dark Green and has a beautiful luster. The finish is further accentuated by an abundance of chrome and brightwork that is in excellent condition. The bumpers were more recently triple-chrome plated and shine beautifully. Fender skirts, bright wheel covers, and wide whitewall tires add to this car’s dignified presence.
The interior of this car is equally handsome, featuring luxuriously striped seating areas in pleated Beige broadcloth and mohair. The commanding steering wheel, dash board, and instrumentation are all in excellent condition. Luxury is not, however, relegated to the driver; rear seat occupants will appreciate such touches as rear assist handles, comfortable arm rests, and footrests. With the exception of the top of the rear seat, the interior is completely original.
Powering this Land Cruiser is a 226 cubic inch flathead six mated to a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The powertrain is so smooth and silent that you won’t even know that it’s running! Having just 54,700 original miles, it runs and drives as well as it looks.
This Studebaker is an excellent example of preservation rather than restoration. With the exception of newer paint and some re-chroming, this car is primarily in original condition. Currently owned by a long-time Studebaker collector, it has been carefully preserved and maintained in his collection since his acquisition in 2003. Prior to his ownership, the previous owner acquired the car in California in 1985, and it previously spent time in Missouri in the 1970s, as a 1976 safety inspection sticker attests. It is truly a rarity to find a Land Cruiser of this age with such authentic presentation.
Minor imperfections in the finish and interior do not detract from the overall appearance of this car.
