Car description |
---|
One of the nicest 1963 Studebaker Hawks you will ever find, this car has spent its entire life in Texas and has what I believe to be 41,000 actual miles, although I cannot document it. The car was purchased new in Victoria, Texas by a San Antonio resident and has been in the current owner's hands since 2005. I have a copy of the original production order. Selling this due to the elderly owner having a serious stroke and he will never be able to drive again--very sad. The car runs and drives beautifully and the add-on Mark IV air conditioner blows cold. The car has Studebaker's 289 V-8, two-barrel carburetor, automatic transmission on the column, power steering, manual brakes, and full instrumentation on the dashboard including tachometer and clock. I cannot get the original AM radio to work. Tires are fairly recent and have lots of tread. There is no rust anywhere that I can see. Doors, hood, and trunk lid close properly and easily. No cracks in the glass. Someone has chromed the air cleaner, but I have a black painted one if you want to go back to the original appearance. Someone has also added an electric fan to the front of the radiator but it is not needed unless you are caught in a traffic jam on a hot day with the air conditioner running. The paint was redone last year, and I am not sure why, because the car looked fine to me when I saw it before the high-quality repaint, and it is a high-quality repaint. There are no chips nor cracks in the paint. It was painted by one of this area's finest and most experienced painters. Bumpers have been rechromed and there is no pitting in the grille. Chassis has been detailed and painted black. Engine starts almost instantly and idles smoothly. There is an exhaust leak on the right side where the manifold connects with the exhaust pipe ("donut" gasket needed, I think).
Headliner and upholstery are in perfect condition. Weather-stripping is new.The heel pad on the carpet has some wear from the driver's heel, but the rest of the carpet is fine. Trunk has new liner & spare tire cover; bumper jack and spare tire are there. Wheel covers are the correct 1963 wheel covers. All of the car's emblems are in great condition as is the embossed and painted aluminum trunk lid panel--which is usually scratched, dented, and paint chipped on these cars. Car has "year of manufacture" Texas plates and can be driven home any distance. Clear Texas title in the owner's name. Car is located in Honey Grove, Texas about 90 miles northeast of Dallas. This is a rare car with less than 4,500 of them ever made; next-to-last year of the Studebaker Hawk. Enter this one in any car show and start collecting trophies--it is that nice. Would like the car picked up within 30 days of auction's end, due to the property where it is garaged is being sold. I can help with other storage arrangements if needed. Bidders, please be serious, get your spouse's permission to buy a car, come inspect the car before the auction ends, not afterwards, to see if you want to buy it. I request a $500 down-payment within 48 hours of auction's end, and payment in full within 7 days of auction's end. Failure to meet either of these conditions will result in car being offered to runner-up bidder. I reserve the right to end auction early, as the car is being advertised elsewhere.
