Car description |
---|
Coming out of a private collection is this very nice and very original 1964 Studebaker Avanti. If you are a Stude type of dude, then this car, in this condition, is a very rare find indeed. I am selling this car for the family of a good friend, who needs to thin down their collection. It has been owned by them for approximately 20 years and was lovingly restored to the condition you see it in today 10+ years ago and has been driven very little since. Hopefully it will find a home with someone who appreciates it as much as they do. PLease look at this link to see additional pictures

Body
The car shows very well and the paint is nice and glossy. It has spent its time after restoration in a heated and cooled climate controlled garage. There are a couple of miscellaneous scratches from storage but it is still in very nice shape. You can see by the photos it still is very respectable. The bumpers were rechromed during the restoration and still look nice. The emblems are original to the car and still look nice as well. I have looked over the car and cannot find any evidence of collision repair in the past.
Interior
The car in itself is a pretty rare piece but add the factory air condition on top of that and you have something that is even more rare. It retains its original interior with the exception of the carpet. It looks very nice on the inside and again to find one this original and unmolested on the inside is also very rare. The seat foam is getting somewhat brittle so after getting in and out of the car you will notice some deterioration of the underlying foam. The gauges look to be original with the exception of the tachometer.
Engine and mechanicals
The car sports its original 327 cubic inch Studebaker engine and automatic transmission. All of which were completely rebuilt during the restoration. The transmission shifts firm and the engine runs well. All of the suspension and brakes were overhauled as well during the resto. The car has been driven very little. I test drove the car and it seems as if it has one sticky brake on the front, although after driving it some it seemed to free up and drive fine. The car runs fine after being warmed up and sounds great out of the dual pipes. It does take a little effort to get it started and this can be attributed to the accelerator pump in the carberator. It has the original type carter carb and those accelerator pumps are notorious for drying up. But it does run solid and would take VERY little effort to have it running in top form. I also tried the A/C and it seems that the charge has gone out of the system after sitting, I would expect it needs a charge to be operational. The tires are Bridgestone Silvertowns and are in nice shape, on the original rims and original hubcaps.
Summary
Overall it is a very nice car and what I would call in exceptional condition. I strongly encourage you to come and look at the car yourself or have someone inspect the car for you. It will be available for inspection by appointment. Please ask questions before bidding and not after you have won the auction if you are the high bidder. This car DOES NOT come with any warranty expressed or implied and it is the absolute responsibility of the bidder/purchaser to inspect and be informed on this car not before. I have described this car to the best of my ability but I am in no way a Studebaker expert. I have maintained the car for the family throughout the years and can field most questions myself. There will be a $1000.00 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit due within 24hrs of auction end via paypal and the balance due within 7 days after auction end. Shipping/getting quote on shipping is the sole responsibility of the purchaser, I will be available to get the car ready for the shipper to pick up. IF YOU ARE A NEW BIDDER TO EBAY AND HAVE LESS THAN 10 FEEDBACK OR EXCESSIVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU BID OR YOUR BID WILL BE CANCELLED, PERIOD. I can be reached by phone at 804-240-6164 for questions and to make appointments to view the car. Thanks for looking and bid with confidence.
