Car description |
---|
Up for sale is the rarest of all Avanti 4 Door models. This car was the personal vehicle of the President of Avanti Automotive Corporation, J.J. Cafaro. In the photos section you can see a picture of his title. Note that he charged himself $15,000.00 for the car. This is pretty funny considering the base price for the car in 1990 was $50,000.
The good news about this car is it runs, drives, and stops fine. It has had an upper engine rebuild, a transmission rebuild (700R4), a new correct front windshield, new power window motors, a NOS correct CD Stereo system, new climate computer, NOS power mirrors, and new brake lines. (A complete set of custom stainless brake lines is included minus the one I had to replace) The factory wheels have been chrome powder coated. This car never had a moonroof so you don't have to worry about if that works or is leaking.
The obvious bad news about this car is it needs completed. The story is I sent it out for new black paint. The car was stripped to fiberglass. The body finish was leveled and blocked with Evercoat Slicksand Epoxy Primer. I was thrilled with how straight the car was, but I ended up not being satisfied with the final black paint. The shop initially said they would fix it and then they decided not to. I no longer want to deal with it so my loss is your gain. I have all the parts to put it back together. There are no books for this car, but if you have basic mechanical skills you can put it back together. You may have to come up with a stray nut, bolt, or screw, but everything major is included. The car has sat for a while and in that time the stereo and climate control stopped working. My mechanic is confident that its just a grounding issue. The air and stereo worked great before it sat.
The interior is all included and looks good when cleaned up. The drivers seat has a small hole in the right bolster. The wood is great. The dash is great. The carpet has some faded spots that would dye easily. The weather stripping was removed to paint but is included so you can match it for new. Its all generic stuff that should not be a problem. The door glass, interior panels, and handles are removed for painting, but I have it all. The felt window channels need replaced. Again, theses are generic and the old ones are there for matching.
So what this car needs is somebody that will appreciate for its historical value and what it is. I always have said it looks like if Batman had a family car.
I will accommodate inspections and facilitate shipping at buyers expense. This car is a project but it can be driven for transport!
