RareRUST FREE survivorspentits working life in sunny southern California. This 4-door Crusing Sedan underwent a complete frame-off restorationin the late 1990's and currently has 4675 miles on its re-built original engine. Beautiful undamaged body and corrosion free undercarriage, frame, floors and trunk. Lustrous paint finished in original Berkshire light gray color with sparkling chrome and stainless steel trim - nothing is missing! All glass is clear and intact. Interior restored to original condition and still looks good today. Optional Studebaker features include push button radio; cowl antenna; clock; under seat "climatizer" heating unit; overdrive; hill holder; bumper wing tips; rear back-up lamp and after-market directional signals/emergency flasher. Set of 4 Firestone whitewall tires in excellent condition with unused blackwall spare. Serial #, body # and motor # all match original factory production order showing build date of January 17, 1946 in South Bend, Indiana.
However, the car does have some mechanical and other issues that need to be addressed - most notably transmission gear oil leakage. Other issues include minor engine oil leakage; loose steering; inoperable hill holder; mixture of new and original wiring taped or spliced together; epoxy patched crack in gas tank; broken hood release cable with temporary fix. I have not used the overdrive and climatizer and don't know if they work. The paint finish has some minor flaws - small chips and light scratches here and there and a single blister, but otherwise still looks great for having been done @ 20 years ago. Wheel rims are missing their circular white pin striping; front and rear bumpers (although similar) are reversed; spare tire is not in its proper stand-up position and its rim needs to be re-painted; temporary exterior rear view mirrors installed. Loose and ill-fitting floor carpet - especially in front; radio needs repair - produces only static and is not securely fixed to dash; clock works only intermittently.
Due to very limited usage in past 4 years, the car's oil seals may have shrunk or dried-out leading to current 'leaky' condition. Recent repairs have been done to make the car easier to start, shift gears and steer better. Starting is more difficult if the car is not used for extended periods.
This 71 year old vehicle is being offered "AS IS"- there is NO warranty. Accompanying the car will be a collection of manuals, spare parts and accessories: 6-volt battery tender; Studebaker Service and Shop Manuals; 1946 Owner's Guide; factory production order from Studebaker National Museum; historical documents of prior ownerships going back to 1965; service and repair receipts from 2017 back to late 1990's Bidders are welcome to contact seller.
