Car description |
---|
A rare opportunity to own a very rare and limited production Rolls Royce Camargue 2-door luxury saloon. One of 531 produced between 1975-1986, the Camargue was designed by Paolo Martin at Pininfarina for Rolls Royce with the coachwork built in London by Mulliner Park Ward. 6.7 Litre, 8 cyclinder, 411 cubic inches with 3-speed automatic transmission and SU carburetors, this car is in a beautiful Paprika color metallic paint with Nuella Tan leather interior and is in very good condition.
The car was built in 11/1980 and was sold on 9/30/81 to its original owner by Ascot Imported Cars in Sewickley, PA and then shipped to Florida for delivery. It was returned to the dealer in PA in the summer of 1983 after the owner died. My father purchased the car on 8/21/83 with 9,400 miles on it and it was driven to Michigan. The car was brought to me in San Francisco in the spring of 1985.
The car runs very well and had a major service performed by Acme Car Service in Hayward, CA on 6/29/17 when the car had 29,635 miles on it. The car is in need of an oil change and other fluid changes which I will have completed shortly.
There are a few issues as can be expected with a car of this mechanical complexity and almost 40 years of age. These are the recommended items by Acme Car Service:
- R&R Power Steering Rack
- Replace Bearing Pins
- Replace Cowl Filter
- LF Seat slow operation/Intermittent
- RF Seat does not work in all directions
- Diagnose Hood Light/ Stops
- Cruise Control Diagnosis
The door seals were all replaced in 12/28/17 and the car rides very quietly with minimal wind noise. I have been driving it for my office commute quite a bit the past month and it is a pleasure to drive.
Paint- The overall paint is good. There are small chips on the front panels around the headlights, at both door edges, at the gas filler cover, and on the black painted running boards. The paint is cracked at the passenger side lower corner of the windscreen and at the upper left corner of the body at the boot. There are chips on the edges of both doors and a small ding on the drivers side on the body below the rear window. I know my father had some ding repairs done on both doors. There may have been some body work done on the passenger side door by the previous owner but I do not have any record of it.
Chrome- There are very fine scratches on the tops of the front and rear bumpers that may have resulted from someone using a steel wool soap pad.I used chrome polish that has minimized the scratches. The lower left corner of the rear window chrome trim has a small loss of chrome. Detail photos upon request. All other chrome is excellent. The front grill is perfect.
Interior- There is slight cracking of the leather on the driver and passenger seats at the outside panels. Photos available. I fed the leather and will do it again. The carpets are perfect and have been covered by the fleece mats that have unfortunately faded so I removed them for the photos. The leather heel pad is worn and cracked. The burl wood trim is in excellent condition- no cracking or fading. The rest of the interior is excellent.
Trunk- The old battery leaked so there is carpet damage near the battery and where the jack is stored- see photo.
This is a very interesting and striking car and is a head turner when people recognize what it is- It certainly doesn't look like other Rolls models and is distinguished by the Spirit of Ecstasy. I have all the service records since my father owned the car and the 4 shop manual binders that cost $550. in 1983. The car has always been garaged and never smoked in.
Own a piece of Rolls Royce history and a rare collector's car that you can drive and enjoy.
