Car description |
---|
This original example of the most iconic and notable of Rolls Royce engineering and craftsmanship showcases the zenith of British industry.
Drive to your country club and car shows in a headturning car that bystanders will think came out of the Downton Abbey TV series.
A previous owner imported this right hand drive limousine into the US and performed restoration work including repainting the body, reupholstery of the interior with the chaufeurs compartment in black leather and the passender compartment in mohair. The vehicle retains its original english license plate
During the over 4 years that the vehicle has been in my car collection, I have made serveral restorations and repairs including:
Reupholsery and replacement of the top
Replacement of broken leaf spring and installation of all new leather gaiters from Rudy's custom gaiters on the springs and suspection joints. See photos
Addition of petronix electronic ignition and electronic voltage regulation ( with original parts retained for any desired originality reversion)
Repair to wiring so all gauges function ( the clock has not been repaired or replaced)
Preparation of foundry patterns to reproduce the original Thrupp and Maberly exterior door handles ( only one handle was original and the reproduction required pattern carving, foundry casting, finishing, chroming and installation). See photo
Replacement of all door windows along with glass channel (including the chaufeur separation glass wall)
Rebuilding of the chaufeur door. See photo
Steam cleaning of car underside and some frame painting
Replacement of hoses and belt along with reinstallation of water pump.
The car appears to match the mileage shown on the odometer and to never have had any major disassembly. The car starts and drives well if one understands it is an original 79 year old used car. Future restoration should include checking and relining of brakes, adjustment or repair of the ride softness control. While the electrics function, future work would include rewiring the harness inside the body conduit system. The car has a functional Luvax Bijur foot operated chassis oiling system and therefore drips oil continuously but does not appear to leak engine oil or antifreeze.
I have grealy enjoyed working on and driving this wonderful car.
