Car description

Offered for sale is my 1968 Porsche 912, hich I sadly must sell due to financial reasons. Car has been 3/4 restored, ncluding:
  • New windshield and windshield gasket
  • Rear window gasket
  • Professionally installed white headliner with NO WRINKLES
  • New black carpet
  • New package tray
  • New dash pad cover
  • New coil, oints and condenser
  • Rebuilt master cylinder and calipers
  • New brake pads
  • New Kenwood Excelon Stereo with CD player, P3 and Pandora

Restoration was started two years ago on a a rust-free California car. Car was stripped to bare metal for repaint with the original color being red but was repainted black. It's a very good driver-quality restoration (not a show car). Paint shines up very well, nd the body is straight. Interior shows well with the new carpet, eadliner and dash cover. Front seats have either been reupholstered or replaced at some point. Rear seats look to be original and are in decent but not great shape - no holes or tears but they are showing their age. Has a 901 5-speed transmission that shifts smoothly through all five gears. No grinding or pop out. VW 1600cc 4-cylinder with dual carbs. Rear window trim and side rocker trim is not installed but included along with passenger side-view mirror, hich is also not installed. Original steering wheel, auges and hubcaps included if you want to use them for your own restoration, long with any other miscellaneous parts I may find.

THE GOOD

Very solid Southern California vehicle with no structural rust in any of the usual places seen on most 912's. Jack points, uspension points, ockers and pans are all solid. Drivers floor pan and front pan have been replaced at some point but were done very professionally. The rest of the structure looks to be original. All the electrical systems and lights work as they should including turn signals, orn, ome lights, auges, tc. As you can see from the photos, ost of the major and technically-challenging restoration work has already been done, uch as the headliner, indshield replacement, tc., aking this car a great starting place for someone to complete the mechanical portion and have a great daily driver. Original spare rim is included.

THE BAD

This is NOT a number's matching car. This is, n fact, n engine transplant from a Volkswagen - a 1968 1.6 liter VW engine with dual carb conversion. While the engines starts and runs, nd the car moves under its own power, t still needs to be completely sorted and tuned. The carbs need to be rebuilt, nd the fuel system gone through. The ignition system has been gone through with new points and condenser, oil, tc., ut the engine still runs rough. There is no smoke and no major oil leaks or odd noises. I believe the engine to be healthy - it just needs to be tuned. Paint job looks fantastic in the photos, ut it's 8/10 and of daily-driver quality (NOT show car quality); however, here are no scratches in the paint. Shines up great with a little elbow grease.THE UGLY

There really isn't anything too ugly about this car. The worst thing that can be said is the VW engine just doesn't have the power that the original Porsche did. DO NOT buy this car thinking you are going to drive it home unless you live within a mile of where it is right now. I have driven the car around the block a few times and started it in my garage, ut it has sat for years. It needs to be THOROUGHLY sorted by a mechanic, r someone with mechanical expertise, efore I would consider it road worthy. The original gauges have all been replaced with after-market units as you can see in the photos, OWEVER, he original gauges are included with the car, ut they need to be restored. The dash and wiring harness were not cut, o putting it back to original is fairly easy if you want to. The dash pad is a 1969 model, o the defrost vents don't line up correctly, ut the car does not have a defrost blower anyway.

At some point in the car's history, t has been a 911 conversion. The 911 frame mounts are professionally installed and still in place, nd it comes with 912 mounts that have been cut off of a donor car that are not installed. The VW motor is securely installed and is drivable as is, ut this leaves the option open to replace the engine with either a 911 or 912 engine.

Car must be shipped or towed for delivery - not drivable.
