Car description

If you do not like it in red you can wrap it in one of 3,000 3M colors. Speedster #83230 according to the Porsche certificate dated 7/13/92. It is a NON-matching paint color, upholstery color, engine, and transmission numbered car. What we know about this Oklahoma 356 car is that it was imported by Max Hoffman from New York owned by a German Volkswagen factory mechanic in Oklahoma named Fritz Winkler. 2nd Owner a John Eichlberg (spelling) who raced it in SCCA E/P in the 60s won the Midwest SCCA championship. At that time it had made a color change from white to red. The front had a black nose which splits into two 3” wide stripes that went down the side exiting inside the tail lights. The original engine was installed in a Volkswagen bus which later blew up. In 1970 the car was The car purchased by third owner (who owned it twice) Howard De Haven. The car had a small fender bender on the street the left front near the headlight bucket. Howard has pictures of it when it was on the trailer at that time he purchased it with no engine. A section from another car was cut off and replaced the damage front fender. A 1963 super 90 engine and transmission with camber truss was installed by Howard. In 1972 the car was stripped and painted in red lacquer. A black leather interior with black gray carpets installed has you see in it now. Howard installed a set of Rudge knock off wheels, a pair of headlights stone grills, USA over riders on front and rear bumpers along with a Nardi wood steering wheel. Howard sold the car and later wanted to buy it back from the fourth owner but he would not sell it to him. He told him he would trade it for a 914-6 which he did. During the time he owned it he only put about 500 miles on it. Howard sold it and installed the roll bar. He then took the new owner Bill Boone to a SCCA driving event. Bill drove it once on the track. The widows said they only drove it to car shows and that he never raced it. David later did not like the Rudge knock off wheels and wanted a set of chrome wheels with baby moon hubcaps. In 1986 the vehicle records show there was 47,599 miles on it. David Sage entered the Speedster and won second place in class at the 1997 Porsche club of America Southern Arizona region event, she was also shown in 1998. Shortly after that event the S90 race engine was over revved, causing an intake valve to bend on number three cylinder. David had collected a number of engines to replace it with. One was a low mileage all original 1958 type 1600. This engine was disassembled and found to have only a burnt exhaust valve on number 3 cylinder. With no damage to the valve seat area. It still had good original pistons cylinders and heads with phosphorus bronze guides . A new set of exhaust valves were installed bringing the cylinder head leaking down to only a 2 to 4% loss. An oil sample was sent to Black Stone laboratories for inspection. Report came back high lead probably from gasoline use, without any other metal problems found. The high lead count is due to lead gasoline. Comment from the lab was “Nice first sample!” P71143 engine is currently in the car and runs perfectly. We have at this point taking the car straight from the garage just the way you see it. All underside grease grime and dirt was not pressure washed off exposing a 48 years old restoration of red lacquer paint, carpets, and black leather interior. The fuel system was cleaned along with fuel petcock rebuilt, carburetors, fuel pump, new fuel hoses, new battery, and new brake master cylinder. She has not been driven 2 mile since owners death in October 2019. The car’s paint and interior shows the way it was when it won second place at Porsche club of America concourse event 22 years ago.
