Car description |

1973 Porsche 914 with 47k original miles. This is a nice, clean car and is a great candidate for a full restoration or just freshen-up it and drive as-is. I was told when I purchased this car that it had only 2 previous owners. This car has the super rare dealer installed A/C system, which is all there and intact, and would be very nice during the summer when it's 100 degrees outside. I intended to eventually restore and enjoy this car but we now find ourselves in the process of restoring a large old antebellum home and funds are starting to become scarce, so it's time for the Porsche to go. When I purchased the car, it had been hidden away in storage for years, only started occasionally during that time. After getting the car home, I put in a new battery and some fresh gas, checked the oil (which looked very good); the original 1.7 motor started up and sounded good. It does take several pumps on the gas to get it to start but after runs for a while it will start immediately with one touch of the ignition key. The A/C is all there but the belt is off so I'm unsure of the working condition (the compressor spins freely and is not locked up). I did drive the car around the block just to check the gears, but the brakes are going to need some attention - the brakes work but the pedal is stiff and there is a red light constantly flashing on the dash and I've read this is supposedly a master cylinder warning light. It will also need a set of new tires before driving it very far as the one's on it are old, dry and flat-spotted. Headlights work and go up and down as they should. The original color of the car is L96D silver but the previous owner decided to get creative and paint it in what appears to be Adria blue metallic, which is an old 356 speedster color (he was a die-hard Porsche guy but sadly got too old to continue enjoying his cars). This car is very flashy and still looks good from a distance, is very straight down the sides and most all of the panels line up good, but upon close inspection it it's definitely showing it's age with various scuffs and a few bubbles here and there, a lot of which probably happened during storage. I'll try to list everything that I've noticed, but as always review the pics carefully as they are part of the description. There is anoticeable dent in the back tail panel and bumper - it's possible someone backed into a pole in a parking lot. There is also a small indentation in the drivers side front bumper. This car is still remarkably solid for it's age but there are some rust issues in different places. There is some small rust bubbles starting under the vinyl sail panels. Thefloor pans are mostly clean and solid except for the passenger side rear jacking area which is rusted out. The battery tray itself is rusted out (underneath the tray looks pretty good). The trunk pan will need a rear section as it it rusted out. The trunk lid has rusted around the latch and one of the springs is missing off the trunk hinge, not sure why but it's off. The rear hood latch pull cable is frozen and will not operate - probably from sitting unused for so long, so the hood latch has to be pulled manually while the trunk lid is up. The front "hell hole" area has some rust and surface rust but appears to be mostly ok, apparently modified by the dealer for the A/C unit. The doors open and shut properly. The passenger door panel is missing and the door glass is chipped along the top edge. When I purchased the car I also got a bunch of extra parts with it and all of these parts will be included with the sale. The previous owner had dismantled another entire 73 914 and kept everything but the chassis, seats and drive train, so there are two doors with glass and all hardware, fenders, quarter panels, hood, trunk lid, engine compartment lid, rear tail panel section, rear "Porsche" reflector, a set of steel wheels with a spare, extra targa top and various other small parts including lighting, interior and exterior trim pieces, wiring harness, etc, etc, see pics (there are some other small parts not shown, just ask and I'll send pics). Feel free to contact me with any offers for a buy it now option.
