Car description |
---|
I am proud to present a one of a kind Porsche 944. This Porsche 944 has the special designation of being the Celebration Edition or Silver Anniversary Edition. This Porsche was 1 of 250 built in Zermatt Silver in 1988 with the Celebration Edition designation.
With only 56,066 original documented miles, it could quite possibly be the lowest mileage Celebration Edition in the US, quite possibly the entire world. This car is so rare in fact that the Porsche Museum does not even have one in their collection.
Here are the details.
The reason for the sale is that I do not have the garage space for it and I barely drive it because I am fearful of something happening to it. As a result, I hope to pass the torch to a new owner who can really take care and appreciate the car. It is time to pass the torch.
FINALLY
This car speaks for itself and Porsches are only going up in value. 1 of 250 built for the US market in Zermatt Silver...how many surviving original Celebration Editions are remaining? Of those how many under 50,000 miles?
Anyone can own a Porsche 944 Turbo (14000 made for the US market)....only a few can be the custodian of such a rare Porsche (507 Celebration Editions made worldwide in Zermatt Silver).
You are welcome to inspect the vehicle prior to end of auction. I live in an area with several airports so if you want to fly into either Newark, Philadelphia, or ABE I can pick you up and you can drive the car home once transferred.
Pick-up, shipping and insurance costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
History of the Celebration Edition
1988 944 "Celebration Edition"
PORSCHE CODE M757 or 757
By 1988 sales were falling dramatically, with the production down by nearly a third from 1987. However, this only encouraged Porsche to celebrate the 944 breaking all the company's previous sales records. To mark the 100,000th car rolling off the Neckarsulm production line, a limited edition was made available in either Zermatt Silver or Satin Black Metallic.
These Celebration models- effectively standard cars brought up to a very high specification, featured black leatherette, the attractive grey or maroon "STUDIO" cloth and silver and grey carpeting. The new split rear seat backs were included, along with automatic heating control and removable electrically tilting sunroof. Wheels were the optional 7J front and 8J rear "telephone dials", fitted with 205/55VR16 and 225/50VR16 tires respectively. Integral fog lamps were also fitted at the front.

With only 56,066 original documented miles, it could quite possibly be the lowest mileage Celebration Edition in the US, quite possibly the entire world. This car is so rare in fact that the Porsche Museum does not even have one in their collection.
Here are the details.
- I purchased the car back in December 2011 with only 48,923 miles. I have not even driven it 10K since I own it, which is the main reason for this sale
- Car starts, runs strong, and shifts well in all gears.
- It is all original except for the following changes.
- Does not have factory radio but after market radio/CD player.
- Sears Diehard battery installed on 12/12/12 at 51,392 miles
- Dansk Original Style Muffler, Polished stainless steel installed in August 2013.
- Hood and rear hatch shocks changed.
- New alternator and alternator strut installed April 2013.
- Timing belt changed as well as other belts, hoses etc. on Sept. 20, 2012 at 51,098 miles
- Regular Mobil 1 synthetic oil and filter changes.
- I have all receipts and documented maintenance
- Car is accident free
- Tires in good shape with lots of tread.
- Dash in good condition with no cracks.
- No rust
- Comes with the original medallion in the glove box.
- It looks good in the pictures, but the clear coat is cracked and it looks like the previous owner ran the car through car washes with brushes.
- Wheels are clean but could use a repaint. No road rash.
- Few small stone chips, scratches, and one small ding on top of driver side fender which could probably be removed by a professional PDR service.
- AC does not hold freon and is still set up for old R12 refrigerant. I was planning to convert it to R134A but did not do it.
- Power window switch for passenger side needs to be replaced. I have one and will try and install it in the next week or so.
- Light gray carpet has some small spots which look like bleach. So I recommend replacing the carpet or getting it redyed.
- The interior hatch cover, which is made of cloth, is torn and wore out from the sun so it should be changed.
- There was a small tear in the bolster of the driver side which was repaired but could be better. Rear seat had a hole also which was repaired by previous owner. You can see it in the photo.
