Motors.)  1986 Porsche 928S  "... one of the greatest and most overlooked GT cars of all time." â€"Mike Musto, Hagerty  A word about that "most overlooked" bit: Over the past 24 months, Porsche 928 values have definitely been on the rise. Now it seems the only cheap cars out there are ones with significant maintenance needs, very high miles, too much evidence of wear or misuse... or all of these. Happily for its next owner, the 928S offered here suffers from none of those shortcomings. So, if you listen to the age-old Porsche advice: "Buy the best one you can afford," this just may be your next grand tourer.  For many in the Porsche community, "best one" often translates to a car with unique characteristics, so a close look at a car's provenance is worthwhile. In this example, we are confident the car was special-ordered through Metropolitan Motor Cars (Porsche dealer #1432) and delivered on July 29,1986 to the dealership in Marlow Heights, Maryland. The car's option list (codes are shown below) is unique. Included are sports seats in front (both with electrical height adjustment), sport shock absorbers, added engine cooling (for warm climates), rear-seat air conditioning, 16-inch flat-dish alloy wheels, and upgraded raised-hub steering wheel. The four-speed automatic transmission in combination with the sport-oriented options suggests the car was ordered with true grand-touring use in mind.  The car's Silver Metallic paint-code L936 from the under-hood paper VIN sticker-retains an even gloss overall, including on the lower valances.  If the car has been repainted, the work was extremely well done. Front and rear spoilers are crack- and dent-free. Inside, the deep burgundy leather interior-also a rare optional selection- makes for a perfect complement to the exterior color. It, too, shows no signs of neglect or abuse.  The other definition of "best one" relates to maintenance history, and overall condition. As to the former, Carfax records show extensive recent (2016) service to the car including the important timing belt replacement. Other systems attended to included the air conditioning, automatic transmission, electrical system, wheel bearings, engine belts and more. Overall, the car displays exceptional condition. Exterior paint, engine bay, undercarriage, wheels and tires all show evidence of owner attention to detail. The 5-liter V8 is a work of automotive art, and attention to its upkeep is evident. VIN stickers and other factory decals are in place and unaltered. Inside the car, some patina is evident on the steering wheel and seats, but it's consistent with loving use over the car's 33-year life. This 928S was clearly never abused or left to the whims of a careless owner. More than 150 photographs are witness to the car's condition. At under 2,000 miles-per-year since new, this 928S definitely qualifies as "garage kept."  The next owner of this fine automobile will have the pleasant task of having to decide whether to enjoy it in a collection, or enjoy it on the road.  The beauty of the car is that "Both" is perfectly a reasonable answer.  Option codes: CC2 â€" Unkn factory code P36 â€" Unkn factory code  018 â€" Elevated hub steering wheel 319 â€" Additional engine cooling for warm climates 347 â€" 16" Flatdish forged wheels, platinum anodized (Mfr by Fuchs) 383 â€" Sport seat, left, electric height adjustment 387 â€" Sport seat, right, electric height adjustment 418 â€" Side protection mouldings 474 â€" Boge sports shock absorbers 570 â€" Air conditioner also between the rear seats Color: S7 "Gris Argent Metallic" (or "Metallic Silver") Interior: YZ â€" "Regular burgundy" (According to Rennlist)
