PORSCHE 1962 356B T6 Body
I am selling my Porsche which has been a joy to own for the past 16 years. It all started when I was searching eBay one day back in 2002. I came across this one which the Owner said was in GREAT condition (where have you ever heard that before), so I placed a bid, won the bid and then proceeded to Santa Cruz, CA with my truck and trailer on June 2, 2002.
Once home I started the process of restoration on July 5, 2002. I started with the disassembly of the car down to just a bare shell and found it was not in really GREAT condition. I should mention here that when I got to Santa Cruz the seller said he blew up the engine, so no engine. The wife asked why would I buy a car without an engine and told her I didn’t know about the missing engine until I got there. At the time we were living in Avon, CO. so I couldn’t just turn around and return it then go back home. Anyway, got off on a side track. I spent the next 3 years in my spare time removing the paint by hand, finding bondo everywhere I looked, along with rust, piles of rust. The following are the companies that saved the day:
Media basting was done by Gary Nardi of Blast Tech in Denver, CO. Work which was performed was the complete exterior (including the bottom), interior, engine bay, and front trunk compartment.
Metal work and major body work by Jim Kellogg and his son BJ of 356RESTORE in Parker, CO. When I arrived a Jim’s shop to review the car after it had be media blasted, the first thing Jim asked be was do I really want to go ahead the restoration, he said it was one of the worst he had seen. They replaced the battery tray, replaced the right front clip, floor pans, door bottoms, metal at the rear of each front fender, and metal at the rear of the door jambs. (The painting was done by a painter Jim Kellogg used). I should note the original paint color was Ruby Red and I decided to change it to Signal Red, which Jim Kellogg called “Arrest Me Red”.
Interior work was performed by Auto Weave Upholstery in Denver, CO. The original color was Grey Leatherette and the wife said she wanted Tan Leather so the front seats were done in Leather and the remainder was done in a vinyl which is an amazing close match.
The instruments were all restored by Palo Alto Speedometer, Inc. in Palo Alto, CA. which included the Tach, Speedometer, Oil Temp/Fuel Gauge, and Clock.
The chrome was done by AJAX Custom Plating in Denver, CO. Work done was the seat hinges, window frames front and rear quarter windows, interior door handle pulls, passenger grab handle, and shifter shaft.
Since the original engine was not with the car I found a 1966 Porsche 912 engine, which is close to the super 90 the car was born with. The engine was completely rebuilt by Trevor’s of Denver, CO. The rebuild included 1800cc Big Bore Kit, Scat Crank, Aluminum Oil Cooler, Solex Carbs w/Split Shafts, new fan blade. Transmission was not the original, did install new flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disc. The Bosch Distributor was rebuilt by Carburetor Resue. The engine has about 6,000 miles on it since I had it re-built so it is about broke in.
The brakes were restored by CarQuip of Boulder, CO. which included new brake pads, the front drums rebalanced and trued, the rear drums were replaced with new, new front and rear brake cylinders, new master cylinder and new wheel bearings, new starter bushing, and new rear transmission mounts.
All sound deadening was replaced on the interior of the car, the engine bay, top of gas tank and floor of front trunk from Stoddard’s.
All body rubber gasket material was replaced around doors, windows, front trunk from International Mercantile of Del Mar, CA. The interior floor rubber mat was also from International Mercantile.
All exterior bright work was replaced from Stoddard’s, including windshield trim, rear window trim, bumper trim, interior and exterior door handles, interior luggage brackets, lower front grilles, hood handle (the Porsche hood badge is the original). The front turn signal bezels, rear tail light bezels, license plate bezels, front bumper guards and head light rings have not been re-chromed and the rear view mirror is original.
The interior has Tan Coco Mats in the front.
All miscellaneous screws were all replaced and were from International Mercantile.
I installed a LED third brake light from, The Lereyn Company, and it blends well into the upper window, and is very noticeable when the brake is applied.
The rims are new as well as the hub caps. The tires have about 6,000 miles on them and still have lots of tread left.
There are two items which do not work at this time; they are the radio and horn. The radio I just have not gotten around to having it repaired, because I love the sound of that 4-cylinder engine behind me. The horn had been working, but has stopped; I got new horn switch and cup but haven’t had them installed.
I have a file folder which is good 1 ½” thick with all the receipts from the restoration which I am willing to include with the car. Files like this are always a valuable item at least for me when I buy a car.
I also have the COA from Porsche which will come with the car. There is a partial tool kit (not original), also an owner’s manual (not original).
I also have a car cover which will also be included.
There are many things which I have not mentioned as it would take forever to list them, but the car is new bumper to bumper. I am of the age where the car is getting harder to get in out so I thought someone else should enjoy it now.
I have include a couple of pictures of car during restoration (eBay only allows you 24), I have many more if you are interested in seeing a car during a 8 year restoration process. The picture with the newspaper on it is a tip from Jim Kellogg, he said to wrap the car in newspaper so that when I was spraying the adhesive for the sound deadening it would not get on the new paint finish.A final note, I take the car to shows here in Tucson and it has won many first place awards in its class. The 100 Year Grille Badge does not come with the car.
The car is being sold as is with no expressed warranty and no returns.

Also the fuel tank was replaced with a new one from Stoddard two years ago. At the same time I had an electric fuel pump added.The air cleaners on the Solex Carbs are K&NThe distributor was rebuilt by Carburetor Rescue
