Porsche developed the 914 as a replacement for its beloved 912, the four cylinder version of the 911. The 914 was intended to be a mass produced vehicle that would be built in conjunction with Volkswagen. When unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1969, it was somewhat unexpected as it did not resemble a Porsche or a Volkswagen. The car, however, with its mid-engine configuration, demonstrated balance and handling capabilities that few have achieved and packaged it into an... affordable sports car that would appeal to the masses. The 1972 Porsche 914 offered here is powered by the spunky 1.7 liter mid mounted 4 cylinder engine, 5 speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive. The car retains a great original core structure and has been the recipient of one repaint is its original Factory color, Tangerine over a highly original Saddle Brown interior. Highlights include: appearance group, classic Porsche decal stripe, vintage aluminum wheels, excellent original battery tray and "hell hole" area, 4 wheel disc brakes, dual exhaust, original floors with strong jackpoints and tow hook, etc. The car remains in very nice overall condition featuring a very tidy interior, glossy paint, crack free lights and lenses, good britework etc. Mechanically, at just 93064 miles, the car is a blast to drive and demonstrates the handling capabilities that these cars are known for. The Porsche 914 has fallen into favor with sports car enthusiasts and collectors. They are a wonderful car to drive with confidence as is wide stance and mid-engine placement provide an excellent experience. Although the production numbers of these cars were rather high, few have survived as people who owned these cars thoroughly enjoyed the performance they delivered. A 914 of this caliber has plenty to offer its new owner in enjoyment and investment.
