THE BUILD & DRIVE

The Gesetzloser77 is a "gentleman's racer," that combines the elegant exterior of the iconic narrow-body G-series with a track-ready mechanical setup that refines the drive characteristics of the vintage air-cooled racer. The performance specs are based on the RUF SCR 3.2 cars of the 80's, of which only a handful were built. No detail was left to chance or sacrificed. Our build philosophy was simple: make it look as good as it runs, and make it run as good as it looks while remaining loyal to the design and marque. This result is not a haphazard amalgamation of tuner parts but, rather, a polished and refined outlaw that can cruise at 20 mph without a hiccup or roar down a mountain pass at the limits of physics. The project took close to 10 years to complete. The previous owner started with a solid, 1-owner sunroof-delete 1977 Porsche 911S. 80,000 documented miles were on the chassis, at the time. Although the car's body and original black paint were free of any damage or rust, the car was entrusted to John Fogg in Colorado (a Porsche-authorized independent painter who has done several Porsches featured in Excellence) for a professional repaint to achieve a deep, art-like finish. The new paint is flawless and protected by Ceramic Pro nano-coating by the best detail shop in Miami (Image Auto). New front and rear glass (with defrost) and seals was installed at the time of the windows-out bare-metal respray. Mr. Fogg took 3 years to complete the paint-correction by hand at a documented cost of $20,000 dollars. Following the cosmetic restoration, Supertec Performance in California was hired to build a custom 270hp engine that was balanced, blueprinted, and meticulously prepared and assembled. The 3.3L engine is based on a 1980 SC case, using RUF SCR parameters such as a 9.3:1 compression ratio and 70.4mm crank with new 100mm Mahle pistons and cylinders, 993 SS Dougherty cams, Carrera tensioners, ported and polished heads, recurved Euro CIS fuel head, high-flow oil pump, and Supertec performance case studs. The engine was tuned over the course of 4 months by Parkhaus1, and includes an electronic warm-up regulator to ensure flawless operation at all temperatures. The engine starts easily, has a strong and broad torque band, runs cool in the Florida heat, and doesn't leak a drop of oil. The car cruises effortlessly in city traffic without hiccups, has beautiful linear acceleration to 7100 rpm, and easily keeps pace with Porsche 993's. The clutch modulation is light and comfortable thanks to a PSJ shift coupling and the recently rebuilt 915 transmission by Porschemeister Gordon Wardle of Team GVR fame in the UK. Shifts are precise, light, and true to the vintage feel of a new 915 gearbox. Beneath the car, custom 7" and 8" by 17" 2-piece Fikse Fuchs with 205/45R/17 and 225/45R/17 Michelin Pilots fit perfectly with no rubbing or body modifications. New old-stock 930 calipers on 2-piece drilled 993 rotors stop this car quickly and with precision. New Carrera oil cooler and Elephant Racing finned lines maintain operating temps at 210 degrees under extreme conditions. SSI stainless steel headers and heater boxes were installed, along with a Dansk polished stainless steel muffler. New Bilstein shocks and inserts complete the package that has undergone precision alignment and corner balancing. The car has telepathic turn-in, perfectly weighted steering feel, and maintains an effortless racing line. Heel-toe modulation is facilitated by the pedal height calibration, no additional modification is necessary. All gauges work properly and were restored and recalibrated by Palo Alto Speedometer. The interior underwent an extensive restomodification that incorporated original vinyl panels in exceptional condition with new Tartan seat inserts and a complete custom German square weave carpet in coordinated shades of grey. To complete the package, custom square weave floor and frunk mats were hand stitched using black leather trim. This is not another long-hood backdate. This is not a Frankenstein home garage project. This is a unique and elegant Porsche outlaw that has been lovingly restored, enhanced, and tuned to provide the quintessential vintage air-cooled driving experience with the capability to compete on the track or concourse field. It is the product of the passionate work of some of the best names in the restoration and racing business. The car was recently awarded third place at the 2018 Amelia Island Werks Reunion Concourse (Outlaw category). Build documentation binder, magazine centerfold, and concourse trophy available on request.
