Car description |
---|
In 2002 I was fascinated with the Porsche 968 drive train but not the way it looked. The 968 was Porsche's revolutionary Variocam engine wich later became the standard starting with the 993. One of the largest 4 cylinder normally aspirated engines, the 968 engine was an awesome design with massive torque and horsepower. Porsche paired this revolutionary engine with a compact 6 speed transmission. This car is a combination of the 968 technology with the mean, sporty look of the 944 Turbo and more.
Body: The 85.5 944 was totally taken apart including every nut and bolt. Custom 944 Turbo front bumper with the large lights removed and slim driving lights and blinker from the BMW 850 grafted inside.Rear 944 tail lights were removed and the 968 tail lights were grafted in by hand hammered steel body work (not fiberglass), the rear of the car was redesigned using 944 European rear bumper and 944 Turbo rear valance.Porsche Boxter brake cooling vents were molded in the sides and are functional. A pair of functional hood vents were molded in the hood for better cooling. Many 968 parts were used including outside door handles and mirrors.
Battery was relocated to the rear driver side with positive cable running in a fire proof sleeve over torque tube out of cock pit.
Engine: 1995 Porsche 968 with 33000 miles including wiring harness and DME.There was no reason to mess with a good thing as many tried to modify the 968 engine and were notsuccessful. Thismotor was neveropened, its totally stock and original. All the horsepower/torque increasewas achieved byauxiliaryupgrades.New rollers, balance shaft belt, balance shaft gear, belt tensioner and all new sensors including crank/cam shaft sensor were replaced before installation. Also installed new Porsche performance Clutch kit (disk, pressure plate and bearing) while the engine was out of the car. New complete Axles. New motor mounts. All mechanical work was performed by a Porsche dealer factory trained mechanic. All new hoses. The car was extensively ran on the Dyno and tuned following the build by 944/968 specialist, Huntley Racing. Dyno results, 285 HP and 290 Ft Lb torque.UPGRADES:
TRANSMISSION: Stock 968 (33k miles) 6 speed with Quaife ATB HelicalLimited Slip Differential (setup by Porsche racing Trans specialist with all new gaskets). New axles.

Now the SAD story:
The car was only driven 80 miles after build and put in storage in 2003. While in storage the wheels/tires, brakes and seats were stolen. Also the driver front fender was damaged. I have kept the car and was planning to put it on theroad again one day. I installed new seats, wheels/tires (rears need spacers) and have all the brake components and hardware (see pic). Also have installed a replacement front fender (needs to be aligned and fixed). At this time Idon't have the time and need the space for my motorcycles. Iam sure I have forgotten some details but this is a great chance for someone to do a little work and end up with anawesome unique car. There are a few dings andpaint flaws due to it being stored for over 15 years.
Pictures of the car outdoors and with RED calipers installed are old and forreference only. The remaining pictures are current.
Note: The car ran perfect and everything worked when it was parked. The car has not been started for 15 years and requires a prep before its started. The buyer is responsible to find out if the equipment installed in this car meets all theapplicable laws in their state. There is about $700.00 dues if you want to register it in California. No back seats. No A/C.
