Car description |
---|
As the reality of owning too many cars continues to weigh on my mind, I have decided to sell two of my six air cooled 911's. (Look for another one for salein a couple months).
This auction is for my 1979 Porsche 911 SC Coupe. This is a ROW (Rest of World) model. I bought the car a couple months ago to restore. However, I know I will probably not get to it any time soon.
I don't know the history of the car other than the car does have a German military base tag (see picture) from 2007. I bought the car in Beaufort, SC (The home of Parris Island Marine Corp Training Depot so I assume it was a military import.
Let's go through each system on the car:
Engine
I have not attempted to start the engine. I do know the fuel tank was pulled in preparation to repair the rust in the battery area. That's as far as they got. The picture shows the fuel tank sitting in the front trunk. The fuel tank should be cleaned out before it is put back in the car. I do no know the condition of the fuel pump.
The engine is not stuck and appears complete other than the cardboard defroster tubes. Emission controls appear to be in place and are on the car. I do not know if the car was ordered that way (from a service member when overseas) or if the controls were added after being imported.
Assume the engine needs to be gone through.
Chassis:
Brakes are dragging but are not stuck. After sitting for an unknown amount of time assume they need to be completely rebuilt.
Shocks and suspension appear to be in good condition.
Wheels are Fuchs 6x16 and 7x16. Tires will hold air but are dry rotted.
Electrical:
I have not put a battery in the car so I don't know anything about the condition of the gauges, lights, etc. The car does have H4's with excellent Bosch lenses that I believe to be original to the car.
The car has a 160 mph speedometer. Is it original to the car? I don't know.
Interior:
The seats are in poor shape. However, I do have a set of SC seats in black vinyl that are in good shape I will include.
The headliner is in good condition and just needs cleaning
Back seats are good
The steering wheel will need recovering
The dashtop has a crack
The carpet appears serviceable with cleaning.
Exterior:
The car is an original Guards Red car with the original front and rear spoiler. The rear spoiler also has the factory rear window wiper.
I do not know if the paint is original. I believe some of it is original and some has bene repainted.
All glass is good.
Panel alignment is fantastic. I don't think the fenders or doors have been off the car. The doors close with the Porsche "clunk".
This is a sunroof car
The battery area is rusted (see picture). I have purchased and am including a new front pan and related items from Restoration Design. The front corner of the fender by the trunk lid has lost its paint and has surface rust. That is the only significant area of rust I have seen. This is a SOLID car.
The paint has flaked off the galvanized rear deck lid. There is some light surface rust on the exposed metal. However, it can be easily sanded off.
The floor pans look great (see pictures). I'm not pulling the seats or any other crazy crap. The pictures I have provided from inside the car and underneath should tell you what you need to know.
Summary:
This is a super solid car that can be built into anything you want. Being a very desirable SC with the factory front and rear spoilers you can restore to original or build into an outlaw or other variant.
Ebay only allows 24 photos and I have maxed those out. The pictures are a good representation of the car. If that's not enough to make a judgement call then come see it. Otherwise, "you pays your money and you takes your chance"
The car has a clean South Carolina title and is sold without warranty expressed or implied.
Payment is by wire transfer, cash in person, or check with plenty of time to clear before the car is released to you. I have sold several cars overseas and am happy to work with international buyers.
