Description

Lots of potential. Excellent candidate for restoration

This is a three owner 914, with solid bones (rebuilt 2.0 engine, new Weber 40s) that just needs someone with good interior and bodywork skills to get it back to beauty. Engine pulls strong and the suspension is solid.

We bought the car from a policeman in Illinois, who owned it for over 20 years, and maintained it with his uncle. They attempted some restoration work which could have had a higher standard of finish. Interior is in need of attention, and the paint is very tired, brightwork could use attention as well.

Speedometer and odometer were not working when we bought it - currently shows 68,577 miles - we think it has to be around 100,000 based on how long the previous owner drove it without a working odometer. Wheels are American Racing Bajas - chromed, and good candidates for cleanup and powder coating. There is surface rust in the rocker panels, and a leaky battery produced rust below that. All treatable with bodywork TLC.

Removable roof is in average condition. Some scratches but restorable. Passenger window does not roll all the way up, the passenger side door opens from the inside only.

This 914 has a performance rebuilt 2.0 liter motor and Webers installed at Kelly Moss Motorsports (work done in 2016). Less than 1,000 miles on both. The engine/carb work alone was over $10,000. The car does have a new alternator.

We're looking to get this in the hands of someone who wants the foundation for a weekend racer, or who has the skills to get this back into original condition. We underestimated the work it would take us, and overestimated our ability to do it ourselves. The car, in total, since we bought it in April 2015 has been driven less than 1,200 miles
