Car description |

Offered for sale is a 1956 Porsche 356 beehive coupe. It was originally aquamarine blue metallic with a red interior. Traces of the original color can be found on the dash. I purchased this California car back in 2012, replaced the brakes, and drove it on occasion before disassembling it for restoration in 2014. The picture of the red car shows it as purchased from its prior owner of over 20 years. Floors, longitudinals, jack spurs and rear interior panels were replaced by a well respected Cincinnati shop that specializes in 356s. Closing panels were in good shape an only required minor patching. Work on the front fender edges and door lower edges was started but not completed. The car was media blasted and then painted with 2 part epoxy. Over $23k was spent on metal work before this project took a back seat to life's other priorities.
This car needs a new owner to complete the restoration. Doors and engine lid are numbers matching. The engine, transmission and front trunk lid are not. The engine installed in the car is number 63055 (original was 62809). This was not the engine that I ran in the car, but a closer numbers match that was last run in the 1990s and turns over freely. The transmission installed is a rare 519 type with serial number 7175 (original was a 644 type number 11199). The transmission shifted fine when the car was taken off the road.
The nose of the car shows prior accident damage that will need to be repaired along with damage to the cowl. The rest of the body is in very good condition. The car had been converted to tear drop rear lamps when I purchased it. The tear drop holes have been patched and need new holes to be placed for the beehives. A set of new beehives is included with the sale as are the parts removed during disassembly but not shown (rear bumper, rear glass reflectors, decos, new rubber floor mats, etc.).
A full set of pictures as purchased and at various stages during the restoration can be found at:
57414
Car is located in Louisville, Kentucky and inspections and questions are encouraged. Car can be picked up once payment has cleared. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.
