As pre 1973-Porsche 911s and 930s have skyrocketed in value, any collectors and enthusiasts have started to look at the Porsche of the late 70’s to the late 80’s for fun affordable collectables. This 12-year period Porsche was noted for producing some of the most reliable and well-built cars ever…even to this day. I have countless clients who have gone 200k, 00k, ven 400k miles on the original motor. They are built like tanks. Of all of these cars, he ones referred to as the “G50” cars have become the most desirable. From 1987 to mid 1989, orsche stopped making their own transmissions and outsourced the job. The result was one of the most durable transmissions ever installed in a Porsche. Some of the 1987 models were known for valve issues, ut by 1988 and 1989, hese cars were completely sorted out. Half way through their 1989 production year, orsche ended the Carrera model and began production on the 964 C4. The result is that there are very few available. Specifically, orsche only built 1,156 coupes for our market. They built nearly 3 times as many open roof cars during that period.

This Porsche was built in October of 1988. However, everly Hills Porsche didn’t sell it new until August 18th, 989. It was ordered from the factory with the following options:

Sport steering wheel with elevated hub

Blaupunkt Reno radio

Short gearshift lever

Comfort front seats

Automatic speed control

Sport shock absorbers (Bilstein)

HiFi sound system

2-speakers on back shelf

Sunroof

The first owner lived in Orange County, A and kept the car for about 8-years and only put 16,000 miles on it. They sold it in 1997 to the 2nd owner who also lived in Orange County. This owner contracted for Porsche AG on the marketing side. He designed sales brochures for new model Porsches. He sold it a couple years ago to the recent owner who is a Porsche enthusiast and collector. This owner bought the car to turn into a hotrod/backdated car. However, he car was just too nice to mess with. Considering he already has another show quality ’89, e has begrudgingly decided to sell it.

The car is in excellent condition and I would describe as a high-level driver. When this owner purchased the car, e had a local mechanic check it out and found it to be well cared-for. This G50 Carrera drives fantastic. It shifts smoothly and accelerates with ease. The steering and braking feel spot on. There are no visible oil leaks or other issues. Recently, ision Motorsports (one of Orange County’s top intendant Porsche specialists) did a pre purchase inspection and gave the car a clean bill of health and said it was one of the nicer Carrera examples they had inspected. A few of the minor issues addressed were:

Replaced fuel gauge sending unit

New shift rod sleeve and socket

Repair interior lights

The cosmetic condition is excellent. The paint looks fantastic with minimal signs of use. The car was repainted some time ago and was a high level glass out job done through Porsche North America. The Fuchs wear the correct original finish and look great with no curb rash. The front Dunlops and brakes have about half-life remaining. The rear tires and brakes are less than a third remaining. The interior is in very nice original condition. The seats are in good shape with no tears. The dash and headliner look very nice as well. The door pockets are in great shape with no sagging or warping. All the glass, ncluding the windscreen, s original. All the gauges function properly. The A/C has recently been inspected, erviced, nd recharged. It blows cold. All the electrical components and lights work, s they should.

This Porsche comes with an extra key, wner’s manual, riginal spare tire, nd jack.
