Car description

You're looking at a real-deal 1964 Pontiac GTO convertible. Yes, this drop-top was one of the first few that were snuck out the door to prove to Detroit that all of America loved the idea of a big V8 motor in a lighter package. And this is a prime example with a top-quality restoration that earned the distinction of an AACA Grand Champion.
You know this a genuine first-year GTO, so everyone at the car shows can thank your convertible for starting the muscle car craze. But more than just history, you'll love the level of care and investment that has gone into the granddaddy of all big power cars. This GTO is the product of a full frame-off restoration. It has excellent body panels and gaps that might make you even wonder if the factory could have gotten them this straight on day one. Black is always a great color for a muscle machine, but when paired with the bright white convertible top, it brings out a true sophistication in the glossy paint. Plus, the chrome looks amazing on the Wide-Track front end, hood vents, all the correct badging, rear bumper, and the rear trim strips that really gives the taillights a nice presence (and that's what most people saw of these anyway!) And those spinner hubcaps are a great original touch everyone loves.
With the flip of a switch, the convertible top powers down to reveal a full white interior. So you get that awesome black and white contrast no matter if the roof is on or off. The big investment in this car means everything feels time-capsule fresh: from the taut door panels, to the shine of the center console trim. Sit in the low-back bucket driver's seat and grab the wood-rimmed sports steering wheel. From this view you start to see some very cool features. The machine turned dash console is a hallmark of the GTO, and it's the perfect home for the original components such as the speedo, clock, and heat/defrost controls. Just below it is a stock AM radio still cranking out tunes. More than just a stunning presentation, there is true distinction here. All first-year GTOs were rare, but the convertible was the rarest and most expensive with less than 6,700 made for this inaugural run. So you know how difficult it will be to find a better restored example of this 55+ year-old true classic.
The 389 cubic-inch V8 in the engine bay is what started the revolution. That's why they made sure to get this one looking as factory as possible. It shows all the right signs of the original motor, and it's still properly dressed in the Pontiac light blue block and shiny valve covers. And the attention to detail, right down to the decals, is what makes this an AACA Grand Champion. With an engine bay that looks this well maintained, it should be no surprise that this GTO fires up eagerly. Plus, the dual exhaust gives a growl that really did make people think there was a tiger under the hood. The big V8 was all about moving this smallest of Pontiacs around with some serious authority. But while these were originally made for the stoplight grand prix, this exceptionally restored GTO is now also the kind of car that leads parades. So you'll be thankful for easy driving features like power steering, power brakes, and the Powerglide automatic transmission.
A such a well-done rare first-year GTO convertible needs to come with the right paperwork. That's why it has the factory buildsheet, owner's manual, restoration photos, and PHS (Pontiac Historic Services) documentation. This is turn-key ready to be a head turner wherever you go, so hurry up get this drop-top before another Beach Boy gets their hands on it. Call now!
