Car description

About this vehicleThis 1964 Pontiac GTO is an original with updates to the exterior. The owner has had it for 5+ years. The vehicle needs work and is not regularly driven.Seller's NotesAll original 1964 Project GTO convertible, tripower, 4-speed, numbers matching drivetrain. PHS documented factory tripower. Has all new floors professionally done. I have new quarter panel skins if needed. The body, interior and top all needs finished. $20,000 invested in a maticulous engine build by one of the world’s best Pontiac builders and it shows. Built to idle, sound and appear Stock. Modern grind Comp Cams cam, needle bearing rockers and hydraulic lifters. Forged .030 over pistons, forged Eagle connecting rods, stainless valves, screw in studs, all the right stuff. The three original carburetors are replated, even the screws. No gold paint here! Here are the numbersExteriorCALL OR TEXT 740-232-4972 1964 GTO convertible, tripower, 4-speed numbers matching. I purchased the car in 2003 for $12,000 to restore and no longer have the time to finish it. It has an aquamarine exterior and parchment interior. Car was disassembled and began a meticulous ground up, factory correct restoration. Correct serial number was located on the rear of the frame. The frame was blasted and painted with ceramic impregnated chassis black, coated internally with rust inhibitor and assembled with nothing but NOS bushings, ball joints and although not installed, the tie rods, idler arm, pitman arm and center link are also NOS GM from the early days. It also has a rare manual steering stabilizer that I have a new shock for. The frame is gorgeous! This restoration is intended to be absolutely factory correct as best as I could get it. I have amassed over $10,000 in NOS parts over the years including chassis, dash, trim, hubcaps, door handles, taillights, inside mirror, outside remote mirrors and much much more. These NOS parts would cost way more now, if you could even find them. Also included is the heater core cover, powder coated and signed by The Father of The GTO, Jim Wangers. InteriorThe floors, although not rusty, were totally replaced due to a couple patch panels that were put in years ago. I didn’t like them. They were expertly installed and look factory. I have $3500 in the floors and trunk. I don’t do bodywork, so I pay to have it done by the best. I have new quarter skins and outer wheel wells. I was only going to use what was necessary. Hood and fenders look nice. I have two trunk lids. One with a rusted lip and the other has no rust, but was bent in shipment. I have two doors with no rust or pitting around the edges. Trunk lids and doors are hard to find like this. This was not a rusted out car. I have the seat springs and frames, but have never purchased new interior or carpet. Convertible top frame, pump and cylinders are there, but will need a new top. Steering wheel needs repaired due to cracks.EngineNow for the best part. The numbers matching 389 Tripower engine was completed last year and belongs in a museum. Built by one of the best Pontiac men there is. All the good stuff is here. It was completed to look, sound and idle as factory. Inside, however, includes Eagle forged rods and 30 over forged Speed Pro pistons. Stainless valves, screw in studs, needle bearing rockers, Comp Cams modern grind cam, push rods, hydraulic lifters and springs. Double chain Comp Cams timing set. The block and heads were cleaned, magnafluxed and found in perfect condition. No repairs ever. Valve covers rechromed. The carburetors are amazing. Replated, no gold paint here! Even the screws were replated. Air cleaner lids rechromed. Secondary carbs are now operated with a progressive linkage, but I have a complete, rebuilt or remanufactued vacuum set up if somebody wants to convert it back. Try to find those parts! This is a world class carburetor restoration costing $2000 and looks incredible! I have $20,000 in the engine alone. I have a numbers matching starter, alternator and correct tripower distributor, as well as a new electronic distributor. The manual steering gear is correct and also rebuilt. The clutch, pressure plate and flywheel are all new. The 4-speed Muncie was completely gone through and professionally redone. It has the correct 64 GTO part number, but has a serial number from another 64 GTO. I can’t explain that. The rear end is believed to be original, has 3.55 gears and was also professionally redone. I installed a pair of NOS rear upper control arm bushings in the differential that may be the only ones left on the planet. I searched the world for years obtaining parts. Here are the numbers from the engine:Distributor pad, 9773155 K23Front of block, 76W 117290 Heads 9770716 K23Intake 9775088 K23Those dates translate to November 2nd 1963The car was built November 18, 1963A very early production car built four days before JFK was assassinatedI have many more parts not listed. I have the complete PHS documents and numerous other photos. Any questions, call or text 7402324972. I may be interested in certain trades. I would like to have a completed and very nice car that needs little or nothing. I am interested in original Hemi cars, Max wedge, Ford R code 427, SD or early Trans Ams, 1957 Chevy dual carb or fuel injection, 1970 Z28 and possibly other muscle cars. I like numbers matching factory correct cars in great condition. I can add money if necessary. I have $47,000 plus in the car. It’s a great start for someone who can finish the work. The car is very rare and will be very valuable if finished the way I intended. I don’t have the means to move the car, as it is mostly disassembled. I will help however I can. I’m not in any hurry to have the car picked up, so take your time if necessary. 740-232-4972Thanks, JohnDeposits are nonrefundable.Created on the eBay Motors app
