The 1989 Pontiac Firebird TRANS AM Turbo 20th Anniversary Edition was made exclusively as a pace car for the 73rd Indy 500. Only 1,555 every made. Though it looks like a standard GTA car, the 3.8L V6 engine used for this model (similar to the engines used in the Buick Grand National) is faster than the GTA 5.7L V8 engines and can do 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds along with a quarter mile in just 13 seconds. The turbo gauge on the speedometer is not just for show, be careful of the turbo power sneaking up on you and be ready for the rocket like acceleration. Though officialy on paper the engine is stated to be 250hp, its actually much closer to 300hp (due to GMs unofficial rule of not building cars with more HP than Corvettes). Surprisingly even with this kind of power the car still gets a respectable 23 miles per gallon. This car is a classic collectible that is on many short lists of cars to own for people that love american muscle cars from the last generation. One of the most talked about cars of its day, a quick internet search on google or youtube will find numerous glowing reviews. This car truly embodies Pontiacs old slogan "We Build Excitement". The nostaligia is undeniable, the only question is whether you want to be one of the few people to own this unique car.
