Car description

1972 Pontiac LeMans Sport Convertible original Paint Code 26 Lucurne Blue selling at "No Reserve" on a quick 5-day auction
This is a prime opportunity to tinker with your dream car over the upcoming winter months, so you can be all ready for top down cruising by next summer. I know this convertible is not the infamous GTO, but the LeMans Sport is the next best thing and this car could relatively easily be turned into a GTO if the new owner so desires. If this car were made into a GTO recreation properly to look like it came from the factory in 1972, because it could look like a GTO as a LeMans there was a factory option offered as aT-41 front end GTO endura option offered on the LeMans starting in the 1971 model year. This 1972 LeMans Sport was the last year that Pontiac made a convertible before they dropped the convertible line for many many years. Here is a prime opportunity to own a very rare Lemans Sport Convertible without emptying out your bank account. To find an original Lucerne Blue Convertible in this condition is extremely hard to find nowadays. Especially with an original black bucket seat and console interior.
If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures.
This was an original Texas car, but went to Minnesota before I made the purchase. Under the hood has a Pontiac 400 four barrel engine just like what a GTO would have in 1972. I do not believe this is an original numbers matching engine. There are brand new belts under the hood along with a new alternator. This 400 starts right up and runs and drives nice with all new brakes all the way around. Including all new wheel cylinders, and a new master cylinder, so it stops very well. There were also several brake lines replaced that I felt needed to be replaced to make sure the braking system is safe. There are a pair of fairly nice dual exhaust with chrome exhaust tips running out of the rear, so this rare specimen sounds really cool with the top down.
This is the first time this awesome Pontiac has ever been offered to the public on eBay. I am selling this car as a daily driver type of convertible, but could use a nice fresh Lucerne Blue Paint job to make the body look really nice. The majority of any parts for these cars are available at a wide variety of aftermarket suppliers.
The carpet is newer, so it looks in nice condition, and a brand new set of four black deluxe carpeted floor mats were placed on the floors for this auction. As far as I know these are the original bucket seats and back seat along with the original console. There are no major flaws in the interior, but far from perfect. I would consider the interior in a nice drivers quality condition. The original factory radio was replaced with a Blaupunkt AM/FM Cassette Stereo at some point, but is not hooked up, so the stereo system choice will be left up to the new owner.
This convertible sits on a full set of Pontiac 15" inch Rally Wheels with a set of four Lemans SR P215/70R15 inch raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with very good tread and four brand new correct PMD center caps with chrome lug nuts. The beauty trim rings were left off because the wheels were all nicely detailed like Judge Rally Wheels that come without trim rings.
I believe all the panels on this car are original to the body and the trunk lid is in very nice condition on the lip where these trunk lids were prone to rust. Even the trunk light under the trunk lid still works. The chrome is all in relatively nice condition as shown in the pictures. The front lower valance is the correct highly sought after chrome valance only available on a 1972. The doors still open and close well. The body was placed in gray primer to protect it until it is time for the new paint. It would not take all that much effort to prep this body for brand new Code 26 Lucerne Blue paint just like when it rolled out of the factory as verified by the data plate. The rockers look really good under the lower trim, and the floors and frame look good like a Texas car would from everywhere I looked. The trunk floor was the only panel that I felt needed to be replaced, so I personally installed a brand new full trunk pan that was coated with AC Delco black and aqua spatter spray to make it appear factory correct. An original jack, jack stand, and crow bar were nicely detailed and sit on a brand new trunk mat along with the spare tire mounting bracket. The trunk also carries a full size Pontiac 15" inch rally wheel with a one inch white wall spare tire.
The convertible top is in fairly decent condition with some minor imperfections. It could be used as is for a year or two, but if this Lemans Sport were to be repainted it deserves a brand new top. The convertible top padding, well liner and back glass window option could probably still be used if a new top were installed. The top does go up and down through the switch on the dash. The car will be safely stored until pick-up or transport.
I was told by the previous owner that the mileage is correct at just rolling over once, so I believe the true mileage to be 101,883 original miles on this convertible. In the majority of states the mileage comes up exempt on the new freshly issued title's on cars that are more than 10 years old. This sale comes with an open, clean, and clear Minnesota title.
Why not make your money work for you while you enjoy yourself. I would have to say this is a great car to take your time and make look nice over winter, so it can be all ready for spring or summer. Maybe you had one in high school and regret selling it all those years ago. This would be a great car to show up at your high school reunion after it gets painted to show how cool you still are. Any money spent restoring a convertible like this is money well spent. Remember when the top goes down the price goes up. This is a great car to work on as a father and son project that will create memories to last a lifetime. The open, clean, and clear title will be sent to the new owner the same day the funds are clear by U.S. Priority Mail.
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1972 Pontiac LeMans Sport Convertible with a 400 engine and rally wheels valued at $53,040 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
Nada has the average condition valued at $25,200, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
Nada has the lowest condition LeMans Convertible valued at $12,360 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
The Nada numbers don't lie! This Classic 1972 Pontiac LeMans Sport Convertible is a very valuable classic muscle car. I would rate this LeMans Sport Convertible to be in between the low and average value Nada amounts, but has the potential to move even higher in value in the hands of the right new owner.
These super rare convertible's have consistently shown toescalate in value with each quarter. Any amount of money that is spent making this car into the ultimate dream car will certainly be worthwhile. What you see is exactly what you get!
