Introduced for 1969, Pontiacs image-leading GTO Judge returned for 1970 with 168 convertibles and 3,629 hardtop coupes produced, amounting to less than 10 per cent of total GTO production that year. Equipped with the 400 CI Ram Air III V-8 engine packing 366 factory-rated horsepower, The Judge option package included wild multi-color fender stripes, a full-width pedestal rear wing, psychedelic "The Judge" identification decals and badges, plus Silver-painted Rally II wheels without the usual bright trim rings. A cheeky anti-establishment statement on wheels inspired by the hit TV comedy show Laugh In, the Judge poked fun at all established muscle car clichs in one stroke. A 1970 Judge also nearly stole the show in the cult classic movie Two Lane Blacktop, with Judge driver Warren Oates character was simply "GTO."
Following completion at the Pontiac, Michigan assembly plant, this Cardinal Red 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge was delivered to Quality Motors, Inc. in Florence, South Carolina. In addition to its Option Code WT1 The Judge package, features and options included the 366-HP L74 Ram Air III 400 CI V-8 engine, standard 3-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter and T-handle, Code C60 air conditioning, U69 AM/FM radio with windshield antenna and U57 Stereo 8-Track tape player, U30 Rally Gauge Cluster including tachometer, D55 Console, N41 Power Steering, JL2 Power Brakes disc front, B32 and B33 Front and Rear Floor Mats, A01 Soft Ray tinted glass and the Y96 Ride and Handling Package.
Accompanied by a copy of the factory build sheet and reproduction window sticker from Pontiac Historical Services (PHS), this highly collectible 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge retains its matching numbers original Ram Air III engine, original sheet metal and includes extra keys. It is understood to have just one repaint and history includes 26 years of prior single ownership. Honors include multiple 1st and 2nd Place awards earned at National-level POCI Pontiac-Oakland Club International) and GTOAA (GTO Association of America) car shows. A well-equipped example of a highly collectible muscle car legend, this 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge is a highly decorated show winner with excellent documentation in a refreshing paint color and equipped with a very rare 3-speed manual trnasmission. Call us today to see it and take a test drive before its gone!
