Car description |

I haven't been around the world, so I can't claim that this beautiful 1963 Pontiac Catalina Four Door Sedan is the finest example on the planet, but If there is one nicer, I'm pretty sure it's never driven. I am only the second owner of this Historic Vehicle, which was originally purchased by a couple in North Dakota. It was obviously loved, driven sparingly, and never in the winter. It remained in their family's possession for 51 years, but stored from the mid 80s till about 2013 when I purchased it. I employed Suncoast Speed and Custom of Tampa Bay to go through the car and do everything necessary to make it road-worthy again. All the mechanicals were refreshed and all systems flushed with hoses and fluids replaced. The transmission was rebuilt, new tires and brakes were added, and all trim was removed to paint the car. The entire paint project was $12,000. The results are stunning. I am constantly complimented on the quality of the paint job, and the paint itself has just the right amount of metallic flake to sparkle brilliantly here in the Florida sun. I also took the opportunity to replace the windshield while all the trim was off, and the new one is perfect. The car has never been washed since it was painted and never seen poor weather. It has always been garaged and driven every week or two and only on nice days so I just use McGuire's wash and wax spray to keep it looking perfect. The interior needed nothing except a good cleaning which I had professionally done. As for the cherry on the sundae, I did have the steering wheel recast by one of only two artists that I know of in the country who do that type of work. I say artist because it is a Masterpiece!! How someone can take an original core and transform it to perfection is beyond me, but it was well worth the $1600 price tag, and this interior deserved a perfect wheel! To the car's credit, the original wheel had yellowed as they all did, but had absolutely no cracks which again, was a testament to how well the original owners kept it up. The car has a strong 300 HP 389 V8 and is equipped with Power Steering and Power Brakes, so it drives beautifully, tracking straight and true, turns effortlessly, and stops easily. It is truly a pleasure to drive. It also has a hideaway sound system featuring a base unit under the front passenger seat with front and rear speakers that are heard and not seen, so you can enjoy modern sound while the interior remains perfectly stock in appearance. Speaking of the interior, all seats, door panels, dash, rear package tray, headliner, sail panels, carpet, floormats, gauges, instrument knobs, door handles, window cranks, locks, lights, and anything else you can think of are Pristine! I really can't say enough about the overall condition of this rare automobile. If you have been waiting for the right example to come along, This Is It! If you are partial to Pontiacs, you will Love this car! The right year, the right color, the right condition, and if you like trophies, you're going to need a bigger display case, because this Pontiac wins them all the time. Most recently shown at the inaugural invitation-only "Gasparilla" Concours d'Elegance in Tampa, Florida.
** I had a question from an enthusiast about the star trim on the roof pillars, which is exclusive to the Star Chief and not found on the Catalina. I placed those on the car as a tribute to my big brother who had an identical looking 63 Laurentian (Cdn. model) which he used to take me driving in as a kid, before it was totaled in an accident. Plus, I like the way they look. They are affixed only with double sided tape and there has been no drilling or modifications to the roof pillars. I will gladly remove these trim pieces before the car is picked up, so make no mistake, the car is, and remains, an original Catalina in perfect condition.
I have loved this car and enjoyed caring for it. I have misgivings about parting with it, but at least I take consolation in the fact that it will pull out of my garage in even better shape than when it entered. So while it may be time for me to move on to other things, perhaps now it's your turn to enjoy this Classic Antique and explore its place in American Automotive History.
Provenance**This must be one of the most personally well-documented 1963 Pontiacs in existence and included with this sale: 2 sets of keys, Original Owner's Manual and Service & Warranty Manual (including the affixed Pontiac Ident-O-Plate) all contained in the Original Dealer Jacket, as well as the Ident-O-Plate "Welcome" Card sent by Pontiac in its Original Envelope. Original style Window Sticker stating MSRP and listing all Options and Prices, plus a laminated copy for shows, and the Original North Dakota State Registration Cards in Original Envelopes documenting every single year the car was driven from 1963 till it was stored in 1985! Incredible!
