Car description

1979 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible 27,000 miles. A tale of two chicken farming brothers. In 1979 there were two brothers that owned one of the larger chicken companies in the Bay area. There business was very successful and the brothers were very competitive. Both loved fast cars and were constantly trying to one up each other. The brother that purchased this car took it for a two hour test drive. The dealership "Key Chevrolet" was sure he had stolen it and when he returned the cops were waiting. Luckily he had cash with him when he returned. After purchase the car was brought to the top performance shop at the time in California and had the Yenko 454 installed. It then went to JoeWhite of Ad Tech transmissions where he installed a built B&M Turbo 400 transmission. The vinyl bird was removed from the hood and it was reborn the Thunder Chicken.

Rare Convertible. Because of the laws at the time car factories were unable to build factory convertibles over a certain amount of horsepower. National Coach Engineering stepped up to the plate and built 250 convertible Trans Am and delivered them to the dealers. This was on average an 8000 dollarupgrade and each convertible is serial numbered. Thiscar is number 1.More info can be found here http://www.firebirdgallery.com/national_coachlot1.htm

After the car was built it was driven around northern CA and garaged. It eventually made its way to Arizona to avoid California Smog requirements. Occasionally going back to California for various Shows. Once the original owner had passed the car was sold to me. It sits in the garage and gets taken out once in a while. It is hard to go anywhere without getting various thumbs up, honked at, stopped, and pictures. The car looks awesome, sounds awesome, and drives awesome. It is hard not to spin the tires pulling out of an intersection.

It dose have a few minor problems. Interior is original. It looks great but it is not 100 percent. has cracked weather stripping and minor flaws. The paint and weather stripping around where the convertible mounts to the car is worn and chipped.Thematerial that covers the convertible top when it is down is warn and missing somesnaps. Nothing major especially for an unrestored car that is40 years old.

If you are interested in the car I encourage to make a quick trip to Arizona and look at it. I am sure you wont be dissapointed
