Without getting into a extensive and laborious dissertation on how great this car is...I'll just tell you the facts.
This car has only one prior owner, with a fully documented 67,000 miles on it. It is one those unicorn cars! A very rare hard to find #'s matching 4 speed 70 GTO Convertible in excellent colors, rust free, and completely original.
This Virginia car spent most of its' life in a climate controlled garage...and was considered a prized example since it was new. The car still shines today. I have every Virginia registration from 1970 through 1997
A original 70 GTO 4 Speed Convertible...with little for options, but plenty for go fast! A 350hp 400 coupled to a Muncie 4 Speed Transmission, and a 3.55 Posi rear end, with a factory hood tach, buckets and console...and not much else...she fit the bill! It's easy to drive with manual steering and brakes, but for under $1,000 you can make it a power steering, power brake car. Do you like A/C? I've installed Vintage Air Generation 5 Systems that do not modify anything for less than $2,000 installed!
The car today has all original body panels, with zero bondo, putty, or any type of rust repair! The car has perfect sheetmetal, top and bottom, front to back. The paint is original to the car, so it's sure not to hide anything. The car has been professionally laquer rubbed and paint corrected. The only area I'm confident that does not garner original paint is the endura nose, those cracked when they were new, this one just looks too good! You would not paint this car.
The interior of the car is all original saddle, albeit the dash pad has been restored.... and is about as nice as you'd find on any original GTO, of any vintage! No rips, tears, worn spots in the carpet, ect. Even the original radio is in place and functional. The convertible top is original to the car and fits well, and candidly it is hard to believe the top is 50 years old, but it is...the rear window is new...I'd leave it just the way it is.
The drivetrain is original from radiator to rear end, from air cleaner to trans pan. Everything is date coded correct and original to the car. The engine was detailed. The original Q Jet has been rebuilt, the valve seals were replaced, the nylon coated timing gear was pitched, the original Harrison radiator recored, and just about every gasket has been replaced, but...the motor has never been removed from the car and shouldn't be. The only things that were tended to was to make it a reliable vehicle...and thats what we have here. The original Muncie 4 Speed was resealed, adjusted, clutch replaced, flywheel. surfaced, and checked out. The rear end had a fluid exchange, U joints replaced, clearances checked and bearings replaced. The front end still has the original riveted ball joints, with no wear. The control arm bushings are 50 years old but not dry rotted...similar to the body mounts...crazy...they lack any significant dry rot. The original shocks were replaced in lieu of GM replacements...and she goes down the road like a new GTO.
Brakes...completely gone through. front to back, drum to backing plate...master cylinder, wheel cylinders, wheel bearings, drums resurfaced, ect.
Tires are new Cooper Cobras, which are very good tires, in my experience.
Overall, this car is very original, and almost shows like a restored car...I'd much rather have a excellent original low mile example in lieu of a restored car. I have nothing against "bringing cars back to life", that are dilapidated to the point they "need" to be restored...but who wouldn't rather have a original?
This is a car that does not need any attention. It's a Survivor car...with the original keys, selling paperwork, P-O-P, PHS, etc.
Everything works! even the transmission reverse lockout!
With only 800 1970 GTO 4 Speed Convertibles built, out of over 32,000 units in 1970 how many exist today? 200? How many with the original engine? being a manual trans that number falls...because these manual trans cars were abused! Maybe 50? How many were so loved and cared for they are unrestored and presentable? I know of maybe 5! I priced this car for immediate sale...No time for tire kickers.
I'd be surprised if this auction lasted 2 days! The car is being listed on other venues and this auction can and will be ended in the event of a sale OUTSIDE of eBay.
I have a breakdown of every casting number and every date code on the car for any serious buyer.
Please, take a moment to look at my feedback, I've recently sold my building and have sold off approx. $500,000 of my personal car collection...I do not own junk, sell junk, misrepresent junk, ect. This is a hobby and it supposed to be fun! Lets keep it that way.
My Cell # is (630) 273-7595 feel free to call me at any reasonable hour. If I don't. answer, leave a message, insofar as I fly airplanes for a living...and can't always promptly answer your call.
Also, as a side bar. I have a account with Central Dispatch, the same company that all your "shipping companies" use. I am happy to get the buyer a wholesale rate with a excellent transporter, at cost.
Payment in cash at the time of pickup, or wire transfer if you are out of town.
If you need to finance the car, I'd suggest a Antique Car Dealer, I cannot offer financing, will not work with your finance company, only qualified collectors, please.
Title is free and clear and in my name...ready for immediate transfer...I can have this car to you faster than Amazon!
