Car description

As described. I am putting up for bid my rotisserie restored 1970 GTO 455 HO Atoll Blue/blue interior California Emissions car. This is a Freemont built GTO. that stayed in Lompac California for most of its life. It was last plated in California in 1989 ( blue plates). put into storage up until 2006 when it was brought to Windsor Ontario. After I purchased the car and drove it for 2 summers ( 300 miles total) it underwent a 6 year 2500 man hour frame off restoration. It would be impossible to purchase a GTO this good as a starting point let alone reproduce the restoration on this car for my reserve price. Please continue reading. it will answer the majority of your questions. The car is located 45 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport. This is a Freemont built GTO. that stayed in Lompac California for most of its life. It was last plated in California in 1989 ( blue plates). put into storage up until 2006 . the car was then purchased by a friend of mine who is a collector car dealer in Windsor Ontario. After I decoded the car. finding all the numbers matching. and that the car was totally rust free. I decided to purchase it for myself. The car had been painted years previously and had been changed to Polar White. the engine had been rebuilt at just over 100. 00 miles. I have the rebuild invoice detailing the work that was completed on the motor in 1989. At this time the original owner also upgraded the standard drum brakes to power front disc brakes ( 1972 vintage) . and added a positrac center section ( 3. 31 gear ratio) to the original 12 bolt axle. For anyone that knows GTOs. all 455 powered GTOs (1970-1972) came from the factory with the " Chevy" style 12 bolt axles to handle the 500 ft lbs of torque generated by the 455 This is the original axle for this car. it was originally optioned with a 3. 07 open carrier. I saw no need to change these period correct upgrades during the restoration. they are by all standards how this car should have come out of Freemont. After driving the car once in awhile during the summers of 2006/2007. I decided I would do a complete restoration on a very deserving car. and return it to its' beautiful Atoll Blue color. Having owned a 1970 Chevelle in Fathom Blue. which is the same # 28 paint code . I knew how sharp this car would turn out once restored. Over the next 6 years the car was carefully dismantled. all parts labelled. bagged. tagged. refinished or replaced with as many NOS or original restored parts where applicable. The entire undercarriage was dismantled down to just the rust free frame which is specifically numbered for 455 HO cars only. there are additional braces in the rear axle area to handle the torque. After the frame was re-done with 6 coats of 65-70% gloss black. the suspension components. rear axle. were all detailed individually. then reassembled. The transmission was gone through. the rear axle. the motor ran beautifully before. with no leaks. nbsp;it only had 7000 miles on it from the rebuild in 1989. so I only pulled the pan. cleaned out any sludge checked the torque specs on the 4 bolt main caps. the rod caps. put a new oil pump in and buttoned it back up. Any worn front suspension parts were replaced. Final assembly of the car was completed by one of the top Pontiac restorations shops in Canada. Oldcastle Speed and Restorations. the owners Sean. and Dennis did a beautiful job exceeding my very keen eye on details. I will take care of all customs clearances and fees to deliver the car to the USA with a clear title. Questions: 519-818-4542-Bob Krug Additional restoration details:The firewall numbers in the pictures were duplicated exactly in the same location . the numbers were traced using rice paper and re-created exactly as they were. The code # 28 for Atoll Blue is mostly hidden behind the voltage regulator. The tailpipe splitter tips that are on the car are the originals that were re-chromed. The 14 X 6 JL code wheels are the original wheels restored. There is a mint set of original trim rings that go with the car. I opted to leave them off to not mark up the paint after spending 20 hrs restoring the wheels. The center caps are NOS. There are 5 wheels altogether. The rear bumper is NOS from the 1980s. the original GM sticker was on the back ( have pictures of it) when I removed the bumper. The carburetor as shown in the pictures is the original California Emissions carb specific only to 1970 455 HO emissions cars. Cliff Ruggles from Ohio rebuilt it to concours condition. and used all ethanol friendly gaskets and seals. It was also recalibrated to run on todays crappy premium fuel. which it does very well. All the major carb components are original to the carb with all the correct numbers. As Cliff said: good luck finding this carb if the original did not come on the car. In the engine compartment you may notice that the dust shields over the control arms are not the typical rectangular pieces of rubber. that is because the car was built using the same pieces of dust shield that were used to seal the bottom-back of the front fenders. Freemont either ran out of the upper dust shields or possibly just used the one style to do both areas on the car. This was duplicated exactly when restoring the car. There are over 50 man hours spent on the pre-fit of the original front endura bumper. All original bumpers shrank over the years. and since you can't change the lines of the hood to the fenders. the bumper was restored to fit the body. All the glass in the car is " new" LOF dated coded glass ( December 1969) The front and back seats as well as the dash( which is a 1972. it was in the car when purchased and was likely changed by a previous owner) are original OEM not recovered. just restored. The balance of the new interior is by Legendary Interiors. Over the 6 year period 4 different original steering wheels were purchased until the best one was found to use in the car. All the stainless trim was hand/machine polished to compliment the new paint. The front grilles and headlamp bezels are the originals-restored. the headlamps are all T-3's . Four sets of OEM front side marker lens were purchased over 6 years. the best pair was then polished and used on the car. The factory hood tac was on the car when purchased from California. installed by the previous owner(s) at some point of time. The current tac is an excellent reproduction. the original can go with the car if the future owner wishes to have it rebuilt. The emergency brake cables are the originals-restored. all the fuel and brake lines are new exact reproductions. As you can see I opted to install a new 2. 5" mandrel built X pipe exhaust system as well as D-Port Ram Air 2. 5 exhaust manifolds. The original 2" exhaust manifolds and riser-heat shield will go with the car. Every bolt on the car was restored to proper finishes whether black anodized. or plating. the original fasteners and hardware were used as much as possible. All small hardware components including the door and trunk latch mechanisms were re-plated to their correct finishes. All the lines on the car are clean. the door gaps . and door fit are almost perfect. the hood fit again almost perfect with equal gaps. the trunk lid adjusted to the limits of the mounting hardware to get the best fit possible. This car was restored with extreme attention to details. I have hundreds of additional pictures taken during the restoration of this car. if you are serious about purchasing this vehicle. I am more than happy to share any specific pictures you may want to ask about. contact me either by email through the auction. or again my phone number is 519-818-4542. If you wish to come and see the car in person. nbsp; or hire an appraiser to view it for you. just let me know. the car is stored on a 4 point hoist so you can see everything from the bottom up.
