Car description

Hi! We have a 1968 PONTIAC CATALINA 4-DOOR SEDAN up for auction. It is a west coast car, so has very little rust issues for a 50 year old vehicle...super solid and relatively straight for it's age. It is a true survivor, allowed to stay in it's original condition over the years. It runs and drives beautifully, and looks fantastic the way it is, so it can easily be a daily running/driving project, and is definitely a candidate for full restoration. I want to be as thorough as possible, so here are the details:
ENGINE/EXHAUST/TRANSMISSION:
The 400 V8 is in fantastic shape...starts right up and runs super strong. It doesn't appear to leak any oil. I have not owned it long enough to see if it consumes any oil. But again, everything indicates the engine is in very good condition. The transmission shifts nice and smoothly...no problems there at all. The previous owner installed a Flowmaster dual exhaust that sounds GREAT...just the right amount of rumble without being annoying. All in all, this Catalina is a great runner.
DRIVEABILITY:
All driveability aspects are in great shape as well. Alignment, steering, and brakes all perform as they should. The tires are in great condition and have no uneven wear. The suspension seems to be in good condition too, although it looks like it might be sitting a little low in the rear (?)...I did not notice anything while driving it however, it just looks a little low to me (maybe indicating a need for rear shocks down the road). So the combination of a strong engine/transmission anddrivability aspects make this a fantastic restoration project that can also be a daily driver.
Gauges/signals:
Thespeedometer and gas gauge are not registering, and the blinkers are not working currently. Should not be a hard to trackdown and fix those issues. The headlights AND brights both work perfectly (see picture). Brake lights work as well.
INTERIOR:
*Original seats/ no headliner / perfect dash
BODY:
The body is in excellent condition for a 50 year old car that has not been modified, restored, etc:
*The main visible body is virtually rust free. If there's rust here and there, it's very surface, and nothing that has eaten into the metal. Being a west coast car has played a huge role in that...no winter driving salts oranything like that to deal with. The usual suspects when it comes to rust...rockers, door jambs, wheel wells, etc...are all in fantastic, rust-free condition. The primary area where rust has had it's way is the inside of the trunk, as you can see in that specific picture. The floor boards appear to have had SOME rust, but nothing that would be considered problematic, especially in comparison with what is normally found. But other than the trunk and the minor issues on front-end floorboards, the Catalina is about as rust-free as you could expect.
*The body is very straight for it's age, with small issues here and there (please use the zoom tool to examine the photos...I've posted plenty so you can have a full picture of the condition of each specific area. The trunk lid and hood are very straightwith no dings or anything of that nature. The driver-side back corner does not close perfectly flush for some reason (see specific photo), which is weird because the entire front and passenger side close perfectly flush, and the hood itself is perfectly straight, so maybe there's some adjustment needed to the hinges or something like that? The doors are all in great shape with some minorimperfections, but nothing that takes away from their integrity/straightness (especially on the back doors where it has that unique design that would be very difficult to fix if it was compromised...both of those design areas are in really nice shape). The main body damage is found around the passenger side tail light/corner (see specific picture), and that same rear quarter panel. Again, the pictures will show you exactly what you'd need to do to smooth that area out and get it totally straight again.
*The chrome bumpers and grille are close to perfect...really beautiful original condition (a little surface rust on the bottom part of the front bumper/grille, butnothing that can't be easily removed, and it is perfectly straight. The back bumper is in phenomenal shape). It has perfectly straight chrome rockers beneath the doors which look fantastic.
*All the chrome trim is present and in REALLY nice condition, including the "Catalina" emblems on both front fenders.
Again, for a "survivor" classic like this...one that has been kept original for decades...it would be really hard to find one that is straighter and provides a better template for all levels of restoration. And the fact that it is a turn-key excellent runner & driver makes it the perfect running project that you can be proud ofimmediately as-is!
It has a clean, legally-released Oregon title, which will make registering it in your state a breeze.
I have tried to be as thorough as possible, but please feel free to ask any questions. I cannot stress the importance of this enough: I have posted several high-quality pictures, so please examine them carefully and utilize the zoom tool for close-ups...it is the only way to 100% accurately see the exact aesthetic condition of the vehicle.
