Car description

Let me start by saying that this is not my car. I’m listing it for a friend who does not have an eBay account. If you have questions, I might have to drive to my friend’s house and find the answer for you, so answers might be somewhat delayed. The owner is not what you’d call a “car guy”.
This 1977 Grand Prix is being offered for sale by the original owner. Yes, he bought it new and it has remained titled in his name for the entire 41 years.
The car has remained in Danville for its entire life. It was serviced exclusively by Fuquay Pontiac until the dealership went out of business when the Pontiac line was discontinued, and it then was serviced at a local service station where a former Fuquay Pontiac technician went to work when the dealership closed. The owner of the car is very meticulous about maintaining the car; always performing any recommended maintenance.
The car runs great and drives great. It is very tight and is mostly rattle free, except the drivers door rattles like it is only closed on the first catch, even though it is fully closed. The 350 engine starts right up on a hot or cold day, and doesn’t run rough or belch black smoke when it is cold. The Turbo Hydramatic 400 transmission shifts firmly and properly – just as I imagine it did when new. The steering is smooth and devoid of any tight spots… again, just at I assume it felt when new. The power brakes do not grab or pulsate. The engine has great throttle response and runs properly.
The engine and transmission have the typical leaks for a 40-year-old car that has never had any major repairs – nothing serious but some leaks nevertheless.
The interior is in great shape for a 41-year-old car, with some signs of wear, but definitely presentable and definitely much better than you’d typically find on a car this age.
I installed some European H4 headlamps (along with headlight relays and proper fusing) in the low beam position a couple of years ago when the owner complained about the dim headlights (in comparison to his new car). I didn’t butcher any wiring and it would be easy to remove this modification and return the low beam headlights to stock. This is the only modification ever done to the car that I am aware of.
The car does have some rust issues, but not in the normal places. The underside and lower quarter panels are solid and rust free. The rust issues are the result of the car being originally equipped with a landau top. The vinyl half top was removed the first time the car was repainted. Surprisingly, the trunk lid also has some rust issues, but this is easily replaced. The car has been repainted twice in its life, the last time being in July of 1994 by Parrish Paint and Body Shop in Danville VA. The owner has the canceled check.
Car is located in Danville, Virginia 24540. You are encouraged to view it in person in you are nearby.
