1977 Pontiac Trans Am, W72 400, 4-Speed11,703 ORIGINAL MILES!Mostly Original Paint, Original Tires, Original Exhaust, Original Belts & HosesRuns and Drives GREAT!
Owner #1 - 1977 to 1978 (0 - 7,299 miles)Owner #2 - 1978 to 2017 (7,299 miles to 11,681 miles)Me - 2017 to present (11,681 miles to 11,703 and counting)
This is a very special car that I had intended to own for a very long time, but we plan and God laughs, right? Due to a personal family issue I need to move this amazing car.
This T/A runs and drives GREAT! I just had it out this weekend to get it's inspection sticker.
It's engine is an all original (and never touched) Z-code W-72 400 V8 backed by the very desirable (and somewhat rare) 4-spd transmission.
The original Starlight Black paint shows GREAT and seems to have been touched up in the rear bumper area. The original Firethorn Red vinyl interior is flawless from the headliner to the original GM floormats. The car is now showing approximately 11,700 ORIGINAL MILES.
I just removed the ORIGINAL TIRES which were mounted on the ORIGINAL Rally II wheels - three of them still held air. The previous owner added the snowflake wheels and BFG Radial T/A's. I swapped the T/A's onto the original wheels last week.
The car still has its ORIGINAL EXHAUST, its original belts, and most of the hoses (had to replace rear heater hose a few years back). It had new front shocks installed about 10 years ago as the originals were shot. The rear sits low as most of these F-body cars did. Keep in mind the rear springs and shocks are still the 41 yr old originals!Like I said the car runs and drives wonderfully, I had intended to drive this only a few hundred miles per year in perfect weather locally to cruise nights.
Paperwork includes the PHS Documents and TWO laminated copies (reproductions) of the window sticker, the owner's manual, copies of the original title (MASS RMV needed to take the original AAARGH!!), and two sets of keys.
The undercarriage is super clean as you would expect with the factory paper decals still showing on the sway bars and rear leaf springs. The untreated metal parts on the suspension show a coating of rust which I was going to chemically remove (google Evap-O-Rust) but never got around to it. The red oxides is very evident on the car's floor pans and in the trunk.
The car has a Midland CB radio installed on the console using Velcro - no holes were drilled! The antenna is in the trunk. This was a somewhat rare Trans Am that was NOT ordered with the hood decal.
When the car was parked the previous owner never shut the doors all the way so as not to crush the weather stripping, I continue this practice only closing the doors on the first click - just enough to shut off the dome light.
This car must be seen and driven to be believed - it's 1977 all over again (the year I graduated high-school).
