Car description |
---|
This PHS documented Pontiac GTO was built in Freemont, California and delivered to Maycrink Pontiac Cadillac in Santa Cruz, California. By 1978 it had made its way to Florida where it appears to have changed ownership several times before being purchased by a collector in the Midwest who stored it in a barn for several decades before I purchased it a number of years ago.
Originally delivered in the stunning color combination of Gulfstream Aqua exterior with a Parchment interior and Ivory convertible top, according to the PHS documents it also came equipped from the factory witha lengthy list of options including tri-power intake, 4 speed transmission, metallic brakes, custom sport simulated wood steering wheel, tachometer, tinted windshield, padded dash, suspension, Y96 handling packageand more.In addition the production record has a line item referring to a "special order specifications" item that severalnoted GTO authorities I've contacted haven't been able to identify.
Both rear quarter panels appear to be original, as do the doors and left front fender. The right front fender has been replaced at some time. The rear deck lid has been replaced with a LeMan's deck lid. The trunk floor appears to be original and after repairing some perforations under the spare tire area could be salvaged. The left rear quarter panelis in need of repair as are the interior footwell areas. The underside of the hood has some corrosion issues. The frame, lower rocker panels, bottom of doorsandunderside of car are quite clean and typical of cars that have notbeen driven in Midwestern winters.
The engine is not original and has an intake from a 1972 Firebird, 670 coded heads for a 67 GTO and YS coded block. The car does come with a correct 76X bare block and date coded tri powerintake manifold.
Haggerty valuation guides indicate a #1concours level 1964 GTO 4 speed convertiblecould be worth over $200,000. If you have the talentor resources to restore this car don't let this opportunity pass you by.
